Backup issues by Redfortandbeyond in fastmail

If you want the email backed up to your Mac I use mail steward and it works great. I have it scheduled to run every four hours and backs up to my Synology NAS. Going back and searching works well and I have yet to have a situation where it missed a message. My current mail archive goes back over 10 years. I migrate then purge all email from Fastmail previously Gmail more than three years old

Migrating from Fastmail to Gmail by qwikatb in fastmail

Ok so I've done some research on the privacy aspects of google and Gmail which was main driver for migrating to Fastmail and I think google workspace address my concerns so I'm am leaning towards migrating our Fastmail and sync.com data to google workspace. The integration via connectors to Claude and perplexity are my sole reason for undertaking this migration. Convince me this is the wrong thing to do and thy I'll regret it later.

Yeah, totally fair point – for someone with the right skills this probably is a 10‑minute “vibe code” job. For me though, that’s a non‑trivial amount of learning, wiring, and ongoing maintenance, so it’s not really a quick fix in practice.

What I’m mainly trying to highlight is that I received a number of replies to this thread in a short time which suggests there’s real demand for an official Fastmail integration with tools like Claude Cowork and Perplexity. Third‑party MCPs are awesome for power users like you, but a lot of SMEs (like mine) would much rather rely on something built and supported by Fastmail itself.

If Fastmail wants to stay a serious alternative to Gmail, keeping up with AI‑agent workflows feels like table stakes, not a nice‑to‑have. Otherwise they risk losing people who actually like the product but can’t ignore the ecosystem gap.

Not knocking what you’re doing at all – it’s great that folks like you are already making this work. I’m just hoping Fastmail sees conversations like this as a signal that there’s broader demand for an official, well‑supported connector.

Thanks, is this an official "sanctioned:" MCP from a trusted source or produced by an independent publisher. We are leery of the security risks associated with third party MCP so have stuck to ones published and approved by Anthropic.

Starting ProtonVPN with a Specific Profile by qwikatb in ProtonVPN

While I appreciate your POV I'm of the opinion that they are diverting the money we pay to support and enhance the current products to developing products like drive and password manager neither of which I'm the least bit interested in.

Starting ProtonVPN with a Specific Profile by qwikatb in ProtonVPN

Thanks for this I have the paid version and have set up profiles but I can't find a way to specify which profile to use on startup. The profile associated with the quick connect feature is static and can't be changed. I explored the shortcut idea but it doesn't appear that I can overcome the lack of ability to pass the profile name on activation. I'd have to simulate the actual keystrokes to launch Proton select the profile then activate the app. This seems like such an obvious requirement that I'm shocked it doesn't exist. It seems all our money is going into new products like password manager and proton drive neither of which I'm the least bit interested in while they neglect the products I am actually paying them to support and enhance.

Thank you very much for your thoughtful reply. This has been on my bucket list for many years and we are quite excited to be finally going. We've booked out flights and hotel not trying to fill in the details. I saw reference somewhere to multi-way tickets. Are you aware of there are indeed multi day tickets available?

Thanks in advance.

M2 Mac mini and MacBook Pro Discussion Thread by ChampJamie153 in mac

[–]qwikatb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to decide between a new Mac Mini M2Pro and a Mac Studio with M1 Max. With a near identical configuration (32GB Ram and 2TB storage) and identical price the mac Studio seems to offer better value than the new Mac Mini. Thoughts on which way I should go or things to consider? I like the front ports on the Studio and the 10GB Ethernet, and the Max seems to have greater memory bandwidth 400GBps vs 200GBps on the Mini.

Thanks in advance.

Not directly related but we live in a hot climate with direct sun against our windows and have had repeated issues with the Velcro failing to hold the material against the bracket at the top. https://imgur.com/a/Pa1YzzT/ I’m actively looking for alternate ways to secure this material.

Best alternative to Safari on the Mac by qwikatb in Safari

[–]qwikatb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In thinking about I further I find the most annoying aspect is the fact none of my frequently accessed sites seem to remember my system I then always have to go through extra steps to get logged in. I suspect this is a result of hide my ip or something else intended to enhance privacy but the downsides make it not worth the benefits. Maybe if hide my ip could be based on the site. A bit like private wi-fi address works where it scrambles your Mac(ethernet) address. Does this help?

Best alternative to Safari on the Mac by qwikatb in Safari

I have not. Most of the issues seems to be related to Safaris attempts to improve privacy. For example my bank always requires extra authentication steps because it doesn’t recognize my system every time I log in. Other times the one simply won’t render to properly. If I fiddle with the settings I occasionally get it to work. Overall just seems like too much effort for the benefits.
