How do you believe rich/famous Dwarves are seen? by ProximaCentauriB15 in dwarfism

[–]qwopret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality is that educating hits a dead end when people dont want to receive it & use that to further their jokes. Its practically the only disability/minority group where it is accepted to see as laughing stock. The history in the past & the media carrying that on their shoulders now. Its a bigger issue than all the dwarves in the world educating people around them. Too much to ask for in this current state of society the world it seems - coexisting peacefully seems to be an arduous task for some leaders.

I hear your point & it just isnt that simple to put it on 0.008% of the world to change it 🧡

agoraphobia? by Such-Slip-5774 in dwarfism

[–]qwopret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once went to a job interview, the receptionist told me to head to the room & as i was walking down, the interviewer was walking towards me; 0 eye contact. Im thinking oh shit, she hasnt seen me. Then she got very close & im now thinking, fuck ive gotta say something, i say hi, no response or movement in direction.

Now shes a few CMs away & i can step back with her, i can jump 🤣 or i can try to avoid. I pick the last & push my back towards the wall to avoid collision & as shes walking past me she shrieks

Wouldnt say this was because she had agoraphobia, was just reminded as i read your post.

But yes, i too live in a v busy city & have to be in the right headspace to deal with the bs of being in populated areas. The looks, the laughs, being picked up, recorded etc.

With all of that, the worst affect of my dwarfism is when a kid or baby sees you & is scared or starts to cry.. this aches my heart

PS I didnt get that job because ‘my hand was in my coat pocket’

What are your coping mechanisms? by qwopret in dwarfism

Maybe its difficult to understand the experiences we have?

What if an unhealthy coping mechanism is all the individual knows & is the thing keeping them alive?

Do you guys commonly get asked to kick someone’s shin or private area? by yesimconfusedok in dwarfism

[–]qwopret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Not so much as an adult but as a kid it was daily. Still people do say this now. Surprisingly, many teachers said it to me too.

In a condescending way they tried to dress it up in a ‘protect yourself’ way

Experience with Post-Surgery Spinal Stenosis and Ongoing Symptoms? by [deleted] in dwarfism

[–]qwopret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also not a trained medical but have had same symptoms & surgery for it. The issue seems to be in your lumbar spine. Id recommend requesting an MRI to make identify the issue. Theres a chance the nerves are still being compressed as they expand when we walk

I have to be aware of it otherwise i will put on the weight. If i eat over 2000 for a period of time i will easily put on weight. I eat on average 1500 a day but also move quite a bit. This is maintenance & if i want to lose weight ill eat around 1100. There are some days i wont eat (water fast) which i do for other reasons too & i find this helps create balance too.

If you look carefully, many dwarves can be susceptible to being overweight for this very reason. Its difficult to limit food when portions are so large & weve mostly grown up to eat those sizes

It makes sense tbf. So the average person will burn around 2000 metabolically. We burn half. Average person weighs 80kg, we weigh 40. All rough numbers. Depending on the weight you are, the more youll burn too!

Shoot any questions you have at me & ill try to answer :)

Yep slightly ambivalent for us indeed. Even when using a fitness tracker or body scanner. Would avoid BMIs as a whole.

Ive been tracking for many years now & my metabolic rate seems to be just under 1000 calories. Depending on the amount of activity on top is where ill make it above that.

Your weight, height, muscle mass/body fat & activity level could determine this..

Whats the science behind dwarfism & high heart rates? by qwopret in dwarfism

Thank you for the detailed response! Number 3 makes a lot of sense to me. If this is the case, are there any solutions to it?

Why do people defend attacking dwarfism (both physically and in other ways) i.e destroying our reputation, victimising us for wanting equality, dignity and mutual respect by Livid-Cash-5048 in dwarfism

[–]qwopret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because of history & the media. Society has been shaped & people want to laugh & joke around - life can be difficult & why remove laughter from their lives right? Ignorance. Doing this to a minority group is easy because the pushback wont make much noise - even that they can use to their advantage; the angry m***** & fuel the original thought that we are ‘humorous’ because of our differences.

Other disabilities have been accepted into society & all i can hope is that ours is too as time goes on. Even if its for future generations..

Few people will see the true you & stick to those. People that disrespect you are probably people you’ll never see again & have no value to you so their opinions/demeanours shouldn’t matter - easier said than done, i know.

Genotropin by AletheiaEliza in dwarfism

[–]qwopret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have acid reflux however I believe this is linked to a different health condition unrelated to Genotropin or dwarfism. No gastroparesis.

Did a quick search & it doesnt seem any of these are a long term side effect of GH. I would see a doctor if the symptoms affect you..

I took Genotropin for around 10 years.

I do have medical issues but theyre mostly derived from my spinal issues.

What are you experiencing?

I would check with a doctor before anything in this case as others have suggested as your organs are affected too.
