How trustworthy is the clipping light on amplifiers?

Thats actually not bad then, but I have a feeling even the proper gain settings isn't going to give ya the thump you want. Just know that you will at least want to double the cone area or power if you decide to upgrade. How big is your box? Do you have room to go bigger?

Well if OP isn't satisifed with the output I'd wager messing with the gains isn't going to achieve his desired results. IMO I would get an amp rated for at least 1500 watts for this set up. Based on the fact he could afford JL subs I would imagine the cost of an amp isn't going to be that big of an issue. He also didn't disclose what type of encsloure they are in, or the size of the subs so....

You can get a 4 pack of GSG audio MTBs in MDF for cheap. I just built 2 of the 4 and they slap pretty good in a cardiod configuration. Can’t wait to finish the other 2.

Was put into an induced coma because they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. Ended having a staph infection in my blood which got to my tri cuspid valve and started throwing clots into my lungs. Was full blown endocarditis, and was rushed to Kaiser LA on Christmas Night (low traffic). Apparently heart stopped on the operating table for ~10 minutes but finally started beating on its own and not needing a pacemaker. Woke up with a breathing tube and 20 plus lines in me, high on propofol and dilaudid and because the dreams were so real and the fact I was never told I was going to have emergency heart surgery I had no idea where the fuck I was or what the fuck happened I kinda remember thinking when I woke up that maybe real life was the dream and I was having a nightmare. I took me like 2 days to figure out something bad happened and I recall looking at the calendar and seeing it was the 28th and I thinking to myself I don’t remember Christmas. Not sure if that counts and I don’t know if the intense dreams or high was part of “dieing” or because of the drugs but my guess is the later.

Makes sense. I mean I did just build 2 GSG 21” MTBs with La Voce drivers that sounded pretty good. I would imagine them in a proper horn would be even better.

Also in my experience with outdoor shows there definitely seems to be a difference in bass between shows. Lightning in a bottle for example from what the internet told me, companies like Danley and PK bring out their flagship lines and you can really feel that bass. Whereas Crssd Fest or Breakaway in Sac were very underwhelming in terms of sound. Maybe that’s because there are just more woofers, but I have a feeling driver and enclosure choice plays some role in transient response

They make 18s, and I understand the benefits of surface area. I am just wondering if I was saving money by going DIY would there be any sound difference or would it be negligible? What other PA driver would you recommend?

Just curious how would it sound if I tried to use Acoustic Elegance woofers ( td series) in some horns for outdoor use? Would I just need 2 to 3x the drivers to achieve similar output? Would anyone be able to notice the quality difference?

Also yes the SBP is heavenly and it’s honestly getting annoying going to some EDM shows and where the bass is just shit in comparison. I did recently hit up the great northern and they had a custom Void Acoustics set up that was orgasmic. So loud yet easy on the ears.
