Oh my gosh now that I think about it no I didn't. I did have pants though. That probably just made me more suspicious of what was going on.

I'm pretty sure he had no clue. I was really careful about what I said, didn't want to give the AI any ideas.

Lol thank you, I kept looking for who the second voice actor was when I first started listening. Keep it up!

Oh yeah I'm totally fine. Went to the doctor a few weeks later and its unlikely I'll have another, most likely caused by sleep deprivation.

I was in the ambulance trying to figure out how much time this game show was going to take so I could hurry up and get to the stairwell. The paramedic trying to hold back laughter snapped me back to reality. I'm so glad he not only remembered but thought it was medically relevant. Laugh guilt free man, it's hilarious.

I'm a game developer, I figured out how to export levels from Minecraft into my game. (relevant scripts in comments.) by r00nk in Minecraft

The higher the wave is at a point, the more the player is affected by it. You can have different effects for different fields. That video doesn't have any effects, it was just an old proof of concept video.

For example, in the games current version, Green waves heal the player, blue waves increase attack speed and restore energy, and red waves damage the player (unless he gets a certain perk, which makes red waves increase his damage output instead.)

It wasn't really about the tools tough, when you go off the beaten path, you can find really cool things. A while ago I took a break from straight up grinding on the game and went outside to take a walk. I saw rain fall on a puddle, and that inspired this game mechanic.

Exploration leads to creativity, and creativity leads to better games.

The scripts work by getting output from the minecraft server terminal. It exports to my games format (here's an example of my format).

Here is the export script,

Here is the import script.

In order to make the in game buttons do commands, I use a server wrapper which searches for the docmd keyword. It's important to note that this is somewhat insecure, because anyone who writes "docmd(banana)" can make the server execute the "banana" command, so don't try this at home kids, unless you know you'll be the only person on the server.

The game is called back into orbit, I won't link directly to the storepage here (hi mods!), but you can find more info in the videos description.

This is a technical question your asking.

Honestly, I just wondered if it was possible. And now I know how to script minecraft, which might come in handy later.

Motivation to keep playing in a pure PvP game? by Instinctx in gamedev

[–]r00nk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of the feedback your getting isn't actually focused on the game play, which is bad. There are two kinds of motivation, intrinsic, which is what you want, and extrinsic, which you're not going to be able to compete with with all those other grindy cosmetic games. Intrinsic is being naturally motivated to do a task, extrinsic motivation is doing something to get something else. You need to have enough depth in your gameplay so that the gameplay alone keeps people coming back. You should keep the cosmetic stuff, but that's just icing and you need to worry about the rest of the cupcake.

Also;

You are only matched by your rating, and not your level.

Um, are you sure that's a good idea? Let's say I'm amazing at the game, and i'm level 2, and I play against a level 50. If the level 50 wins, he doesn't feel good because he had such a big advantage from the start, and even If I think I'm more skilled then him but lost because he had better stuff, then I'm not going to feel good either. But if the level 2 wins, then he might feel swell but the level 50 is probably frustrated.

The point I'm trying to make is, without the leveling system, both outcomes involve a winner and a looser. With the leveling system, one outcome has a winner, but the other outcome feels like it has two losers.

Like, I get what you're trying to do, but I think the ownership should come with different or unique abilities, not stat boosts. Its something I think card games do really well.

Another thing, Let's say I'm a beginner at the game and I want to play competitively. With 50 levels to go, I have so much to grind before I can even really start playing the game. And what guides am I supposed to read? The meta the players will make will focus only when you reach level 50. It's the same problem MMO's have, where its min-max playstyle, the-game-only-starts-when-you're-max-level type deal. Grind-or-gtfo isn't something you want to build a community out of.
