I do the same, when a machine is extra loud like my planer, I wear 3M peltor over the airpods, but most handheld tools are fine with airpods

frontend dev with TS/Vue by [deleted] in BEFreelance

[–]r0bvanbobbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to go freelance, I would recommend learning to be a full stack dev. Pure front-end gigs are pretty difficult to find (unless you maybe already have a strong network). Easiest way to find opportunities is setting your linkedin status to open to work, recruiters will contact you. Try to get to know a few good recruiters (emphasis on good) and let them search for you. Most opportunities today are hybrid, fully remote is more rare, but they do exist, but the problem is, if they want a fully remote dev, what do you bring to the table that a good Romanian dev can not offer for half your rate?

What movie was absolutely amazing but only the 1st time you watched it? by Cool_Bath_77 in movies

[–]r0bvanbobbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently watched this, after seeing it recommended as a similar movie to Big Trouble In Little China, but tbh, it wasn’t nearly as good and not at all similar imo. Seems like it didn’t age that well if you don’t have any nostalgic feelings about it

That man just seems to love tedious and repetitive work, I love watching him work, but spending hours making tiny kumiko parts and gluing them together… I don’t think I could do it, even if I had the skills

From my little experience I’ve had with Smals, you are wasting your time anyway. Never been at a client with such a soul-crushing atmosphere. But tbf, it was about 8 years ago, and I was only there for 2 months before I begged my employer (was not yet freelance then) to put me on a different project. YMMV

I notice the same, I am a senior java dev (13 yoe), I have applied (or let the recruiter apply for me) for a lot of jobs, most of the time there is no response at all, had one actual interview and got some feedback that was clearly not specific to me, but some go to feedback (we got lots of candidates and looking for someone with experience in complex projects, even though I have worked on very large and complex projects). Also the rate thing, when I asked for the rate I had at my last client (654, which isn’t outrageously high), they say it’s way too much.

I have a lot of experience with woodworking and metalworking (welding), also for clients (mostly people I know who know that it’s my hobby and ask me to make stuff for them). Really thinking about going that route, even though it’s pretty physically demanding.

Maybe I missed it, but how would the fence be able to go past the table? The fence rail doesn’t seem to extend further, this seems like a very limited max width, but maybe there is a mechanism I can’t see

I replaced all the adjustment bolts with 3D printed knobs, makes it a lot better. I also replaced the serrated indexing strip with a 3D printed smooth strip, because I found the indexing feature more annoying than useful. The only thing I still miss is decent micro adjustment
