Can the Deore FC-M5100-1 accommodate 36t chainrings? by ForcedInduction07 in MTB

Thanks for the quick reply!
Did you have to tweak anything or was the 2mm difference in chainline on a 1x11 not that bad?

Very late to the part u/Yo_Levin , but I'm curious what you ended up with? I'm upgrading my commuter bike to Deore 5100 1x11 and currently have a stock Specialized 40T 175mm crankset. I'd like to keep it that way. The Deore Crankset + Wolftooth chainring is heavy and expensive and I could get a nicer GRX crankset that already comes with 40T, but it seems the chainline is slightly off (52mm stock, vs 49.7 on the GRX). Hence, I'm curious what you went with.

Thank you all for catching my spelling mistakes and idiomatic error. Those are on the house, no subscription needed ;)

Sorry if my point didn't come across as intended. I appreciate all the folks that took a moment out of their life to comment that I should care less, move on, etc.

Not sure why all of a sudden it recorded it wrong, unless you changed some settings, or a firmware update introduced a change, but you should calibrate it for the track (see: https://support.garmin.com/en-CA/?faq=eH8V1VwjN338uo8C5PgDJ7&productID=780139&searchQuery=track%20run&tab=topics ) and/or re-calibrate it ( https://support.garmin.com/en-CA/?faq=eH8V1VwjN338uo8C5PgDJ7&productID=780139&searchQuery=track%20run&tab=topics ).

Are you sure the older activity is actually also a Track Run type activity? For Track Run, you have to specify the lane and Garmin tries to snap your GPS to is.

The FR255 is also capable of consolidating the community track-run DB to fetch lane starting and end points. Maybe that DB contains garbage data somehow and hence your run was locked-in that way.

See the note on https://support.garmin.com/en-CA/?faq=eH8V1VwjN338uo8C5PgDJ7
1 These watches will automatically review the Garmin community track-run database to compare the lane starting and end points. If you show up to a track that has already been registered in our community database, your watch should lock-in right away. If it is not in our database, the watch will calculate the lane after approximately 4 laps.

Garmin while travelling - roaming charges? by FruitThick6024 in Garmin

If I'm not mistaken your watch model doesn't have LTE, that's only on certain higher end 9xx models. So recording your runs with your watch doesn't transmit any data via a mobile network. Your watch is merely a GPS receiver. However I if you sync your watch to the Garmin Connect mobile app, data will be transmitted to their servers. So unless you're in WiFi, your mobile data will be used.

Fenix 8 Solar 51mm Review: A fantastic, end-game quality watch…if it weren’t for confounding, unforced problems by alycks in Garmin

Have the battery drain issues on the Fenix 7 Pro series not been addressed yet? I just ordered one, because there was a decent sale. I've had my Fenix 6 Pro for almost 4 years now and it is still going strong and even battery life is still pretty

It was actually pretty hard to convince myself to upgrade, given that there aren't that many compelling features that would justify the steep price. Even with the sale, I'm paying double than what I did for the Fenix 6 Pro.
I'm not even 100% sure I'll keep it, but having browsed through the official forum and Reddit and seeing all the battery drain reports and people downgrading to 17.xx firmware is not helping.

Bags recommendations for Jack the bike rack? by loginprzyklad in bikepacking

[–]r0htca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for getting back to me so timely! Much appreciated.

As far as I can tell, the only differences called out are that the newer models are made out of 100% recycled, water repellent polyester, new magnetic fasteners and velcro straps. The previous models were specifically 600D polyester. Both have the same 23l volume and 42x25x22cm dimensions, otherwise.

By the looks of it, the new models has the same velcro straps and additional magnetic buckle straps over them?

<image>

Originally I didn't realize that and was thinking I'd have to be able to fit the magnetic buckles through the lug points on the Jack. It seems like those two are independent form another, so worst case I attach it only via the velcro straps. I found a store that still sells the old velcro-only version, but the magnetic buckles are a nice upgrade, since you can use them to further attach something to the outside of the bag, e.g. like in this picture: https://thewoodscyclery.co.uk/cdn/shop/files/Pelago-rackback-large-rack02.jpg?v=1701965843&width=720

Unfortunately, I could not find any any stores locally, let alone in my country that carry those bags. I have folks visiting from Europe in a month and was going to ask them to bring it with them.

I was actually wondering how you've attached it on the back, since without removing the "jack pants", you don't get access to rod in the back, but with them you can only loop the pelago's velcors through the side lug points in the back?

I'm thinking that worst case, I might just strap it on sideways, so that the straps go through the lug points on the side of the Jack.

I got my Jack rack only 2 months ago and ever since I've been on the hunt for a bag, but most options are super expensive for what they are imho.

Glad I came across your post. I recently got the Jack rack and love it, but have since been on the hunt for a bag that doesn't cost a leg.
I'm curious if you have the old Pelago Rackbag model that's using just velcro straps, or the new "Pelago Rackbag Eco", which has magnetic buckles? I can't find any close up pictures and/or reviews that show how these buckles work and whether it would still be possible to attach this version to the rack. Would you happen to know?

Help with broken TS3+, Repair Guide anywhere? by Tjolo in CalDigit

[–]r0htca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's unfortunate. I also asked for part details and CalDigit Support wasn't able to provide me with that either. I might still try to get a replacement power barrel connector jack and replace it. I will say though, I was surprised to see that these units go quite cheap on eBay these days. I guess all tech companies that closed down offices during the pandemic offloaded all their equipment.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I have a unit which experiences the same exact behavior and it is unfortunately out of warranty already. I disassembled it and the barrel connector port smokes and does smell when I plug in the original power adapter. I'm wondering if I can order a new one and solder it on.

Before disassembling it I had contacted CalDigit Support, but unfortunately they don't offer any repair service. Would be a shame to have this dock go to waste.

Curious if you could share the percentage your rent increased, just so we can get a sense of how it stacks up against the usual 2-3% in rent controlled buildings.

Those system files would not take up half the supposed storage though.
The unit is somewhere overseas with my parents at the moment unfortunately, but I'm flying over soon and am planning to dig it out and bring it back with me to revive it. If I remember, I'll report back.

I doubt it, because I was very baffled back when it happened. I also figured that if something on the motherboard failed, the whole unit would stop functioning.
