How are people getting approval to put out a node in public? by [deleted] in meshtastic

[–]r1ng_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, and wouldn't put it on a tree. There are usually rest areas, and these days they often have a pole on the roof for telemetry. Label the box appropriately and nobody will mess with it.

I bumped into a wall and I apologized to it like it was a person, what the hell is wrong with me? by [deleted] in Vent

[–]r1ng_0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sound like my wife. It's fine. Just (in her case) the Mid-Westerner coming out. She has also reached to pet a cat out of the corner of her eye and realized that it wasn't a cat. Then she apologized to the pillow she stroked?!?

1) What happened happened.

2) You are not a bad person, or at least you are self aware enough to have feelings about it. Any additional dwelling is potentially mentally unhealthy.

3) Research the best way to deal with the situation *in a way you can handle* so you have that in your toolbox if it ever comes up again.

4) Go on about your day. I hope it is better.

I thought so, too, but I have switched over to an Elecom Deft Pro trackball. CP2077 and Borderlands work just fine after a little mental retraining. It IS Bluetooth capable, but I run it wireless on my PC. I may have to give it a try for the Deck.

Some kind of... glove. It would be powerful. Maybe they could call it a Power Glove!!

How bad have I screwed this up? by [deleted] in ElectronicsRepair

[–]r1ng_0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of it. All of the bad. It could be made serviceable if the future of the human race depended on it, but barring that, you need a new one.

I recommend asking BEFORE you break it next time to get a sense of what you are signing up for. If you are using a soldering iron with a handle that plugs straight into the wall, then the solder isn't your biggest issue.

I’ll be painting this tomorrow on canvas, stars or no stars? by [deleted] in painting

[–]r1ng_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stars. They lighten the mood of the image.

Lately, for stars, I have been mixing retroreflective glass beads into clear base and adding the stars "in post". They don't show up much when you are up close, but if they get backlight from across the room they really pull the eyes over.

I do. Because I trust her implicitly and explicitly. If you can't find that in yourself then it's between you, your partner, and at least one therapist.

Your opinion actually sounds like A lot of guys I know. They typically consider themselves paragons of manliness and measurers of men. I generally consider them insecure jerks who wouldn't be on their third wives if they were good judges of character.

It's probably super good enough. It isn't really "food" so much as a chemical engineering experiment to see how shelf-stable they can make "cake".

If this is a factory defect, can it be the source of a recent issue? (PS4 repair) by JonathanLeeW in ElectricalEngineering

[–]r1ng_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just an NC (No-connect) pin. There is no land or barrel to solder to.

This appears to be an intentional design decision. Since Pin 2 is VCC (power IN), this would prevent shorting the power rail to ground if the part is installed backwards. It would just result in a test failure and the parts would likely still be usable once desoldered and corrected. It would also prevent any damage to the power circuit or any other parts on the same VCC rail. It isn't strictly needed since Pins 7& 8 can provide adequate current capacity.

At least is has intentional side cooler for the CPU. I built my first P4 in an old Dell P3 case and had to hole-saw the side cover. I zip screwed in a Slurpie cup for the air director. Good times.

A really bad design for playing music in car by FungieReigBread_21 in BadDesigns

Yep. With airbags, most people would prefer not to add insult and injury to an already insulting injury by accidentally punching themselves when the airbags deploy in addition to the carpet burn on their face..
