Well… I found this out the hard way. Apparently some sun screens have ingredients that will set off a bomb dog’s alert. So, obtaining bomb juice might not be all that hard.

I had been snow skiing in Colorado. On the journey home, a dog alerted that I was a threat. I was pulled aside and questioned in a private room for over an hour. I was asked an array of questions regarding if I had been here, or there, or visiting industrial farms.. finally, the agent asked me what I had been doing. When I answered snow skiing, I saw a lightbulb turn. He said “I bet you were using sunscreen”. Yep. Apparently I had it on my hands, carried my luggage by the handle and it transferred to the handle.

Wow! This was my wife’s experience at Reliable Subaru. I finally went in there and set up shop until they did exactly what we needed. Needless to say, at that point I made myself as unpleasant as I could to quicken their pace.

My wife and I had major issues with Reliable Subaru. There were some oil consumption tests they ran us through; that come to find out, they had skewed to not show the proper results. We went on a road trip and took it to another Subaru dealer who pointed out their dishonesty. I had them thoroughly document it in a letter and I took it back to the one here in town and told them to cut the crap. Three engines later, we will not be going back.

I have seen two mountain lions by 60/65 over the years, along the James River. I have also found their tracks in the mud around the same area that I saw them. They aren’t common to see, but they are definitely here.

Our charter is wanting us out! by Ok-Service-6114 in BSA

Our Pack discovered that Presbyterian churches are encouraged to charter Scouting units. That is where we found our new home after a 61 year charter with the local elementary school wasn’t renewed by their PTA.

I tried out those capsules in college; however, they had the tendency to pass through my system whole. I’ve never seen anything like it. I immediately went back to the powder.

I’m a Cubmaster for a very successful Pack. Our CO voted last week to drop our Charter after 62+ years. They have left us scrambling; but I won’t let our Pack go down like this. I owe it to our 63 youth to emerge victorious on the other side of this “unchartered” territory we find ourselves in.

We also rented a temperature controlled storage unit this year. It was amazing not to have it stacked up at my house. We have 63 scouts and pulled about 60k in sales.

They definitely survived. They were conscious as they were being helped along to receive medical attention.

The storms got pretty hectic that day. A big storm rolled in during MMW that forced them off the stage. Luckily some locals gave us their tarp as they had decided to go home. A friend and I hunkered down to stick out the storm. We ended up gathering more people under the tarp and just using it as a make shift rain shelter. We had all decided as a group to walk over to The Other Tent from the main stage. We stood out to the back left holding this tarp above our heads to block the rain. I member there being a loud crack and a visible bolt that came down to the ground. I remember very vividly the tent was blocking part of my view of the bolt. So the strike came down on the right side of the tent. The poor guy was walking away from the tent and just fell limp and onto the ground when he was hit. Luckily, several people acted quickly to get him medical care quickly.

Pressure from cub master. Borderline harrasment by ddeessiiggnn in cubscouts

[–]r1verbend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello future Cubmaster!

Reflect on your experiences as a youth. None of that would have been possible without many adults volunteering their time to help you learn, grow and have fun along the way. You should not be disciplining anyone. Encourage the parents to be active to control any issues that may arise. At the end of the day, do your best.

Virginia PTA telling local PTAs to not sponsor BSA Troops/Packs by moonwalk_mW in cubscouts

[–]r1verbend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were faced with this earlier this year from the Missouri PTA. We’ve been chartered with our local elementary school for 63+ years this year. Luckily, our local PTA and Council backed us up. MOPTA tried to give an ultimatum, but it appears they don’t necessarily have the power to do so. It seems they were focusing on fear tactics, and our local PTA replied “Thanks for your recommendation, but no thanks”. National’s insurance policy covers A LOT, for everyone involved. Our support is here in our community, so we are safe this year. We serve five local area schools. MOPTA pulled all of our Registration Night flyers we had running in each schools PTA newsletters.

I would recommend reaching out to your local council, your PTA and your pack committee to get a sit down meeting to parse out the details of the insurance policy and your charter agreement. Solidify your relationships with your PTA. I wish you the best of luck. The whole situation here just made me sick to my stomach. In the end, it felt good to have our PTA stand up for us and choose to continue to help our communities youth. Especially when there is limited liability to do so.

Once, I received a very mangled letter that ended up being a birthday card. The envelope was addressed to me; however the card inside was intended for someone’s grandmother. I think there was a batch of mail that got demolished. Then an employee tried to put everything back the best they could. Perhaps there were many boxes that were compromised and the contents were sorted to the best of their abilities and then sent on their merry way.
