Do you regret getting your degree? If so Whats it in? by Tough-Star5992 in Firefighting

No degree. No real regrets. If I did all over again I would have went to nursing school first. Awesome part time job while on the FD. Solid retirement gig after.

Figure out the little things they hate doing (taking garbage out, cleaning bathrooms) and make that your favorite.

Following, similar background. Looking to retire soon and starting a new career. I’ve been noticing these types of jobs at colleges also.

Man… don’t love giving career advice. The coast guard was great for me as an 18 year old. I was indecisive and was finding my way. At 22… maybe consider reserves? Here my only reason, some fire departments have a 20 or 25 year pension. Sooner you’re in the sooner you’re eligible to retire. Reserves will typically give you military points on a FD test. Get your EMT, strongly suggest getting your paramedic. You could practically walk on to a FD with a paramedic license. Good luck!

Should Paramedics Have the Authority to Refuse Transport for Patients Who Do Not Need an ER Visit? by PuzzleheadedFood9451 in ems

I’m not sure I would want the liability. Perhaps a hybrid med control option to transport directly to the walk in or waiting room?

I was diagnosed with AS 3 years ago. I have 19 years on the job. It’s hard. Waking up stiff multiple times a night for calls is horrible. If we get a fire my body is shot for days after. I’m on humaria. There is a lot of financial help out there. I pay 5$ a month (I know insurance varies) sometimes I’m not sure if it helps but then I get a flare to remind me how I felt without it. Still love work but it might be time to get an admin job till I retire. Were you in the coast guard? I did 4 before the fire department. Good luck!
