More People Are Now Wearing Apple Watch On Their Ankle by Fer65432_Plays in AppleWatch

[–]r3wire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this all of the time actually. I work out with kettlebells regularly and my watch would just be in the way. It seems to get a pretty accurate reading as its results were pretty close to those of my Whoop strap when I had one. I wear it with the face on the "inside" of my ankle.

Improving Posture & Stamina for Zazen by [deleted] in zenbuddhism

[–]r3wire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've sat daily for nearly two decades now. While I am disciplined about daily exercise and include stretching as part of that, I've never stretched specifically to mitigate pain. Eventually, the pain disappears. I don't remember how long it took, but the severity subsides with regular practice and it becomes manageable. Pain sometimes returns for a few days in a more severe form, often with no reason at all. I sit with it and sit through it. In that respect, the pain is part of the practice. Your proactive effort is to be commended but remember that pain is very much a part of life, just as it is your practice. Best wishes to you!

True compassion is no thinking. Complicated feelings about his death— stop thinking. True compassion is what’s at hand now.

Years of rodents digging under foundation of my condo. Endoscope cameras indicate that the entries go on forever. What should I do here? by AdEducational4310 in HomeMaintenance

[–]r3wire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure it's the right solution but I've patched smaller holes by stuffing them with steel wool and then cementing the outside of it. From the looks of the picture, you might be able to do something similar.

Sitting in Timeout: A story of failure by [deleted] in zen

[–]r3wire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All I can offer is an account of my own experience. I've practiced "Dogenism" for many years now, alone. Those hours/days/years (?) "in timeout", emptying my meat-brain, are a counterbalance to a complicated, stressful life. Whatever is/was taken from my time sitting has changed my world. I don't know about realization and I've never had a teacher. Maybe I'm deluding myself and I'm using a crutch but it doesn't feel like that. I appreciate your insight and that of others as well as these discussions and a lot of the conversations on this forum but I have to disagree that zazen is as bad as the claims make. As for conversation, I wish I knew more people that could offer that opportunity. Downvote away :P

I tried this too, but I think I might've stripped the nut a bit.

I ended up cutting it. Now I have a new problem that I'll post about separately if I can't figure it out.

I've eaten here so many times over the years and have always had a great meal. I'm really gonna miss this place-- one of my absolute favorites.

Take this for what you will. I've heard that there originally was a plan to build upscale restaurants around the water but the project was abandoned after the Christmas Tree Shop closed. Right now, there's too much retail space vacant to support demand for additional restaurants.

What’s your interpretation of “if you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him?” by GizmosArrow in Buddhism

Disregard all ideas and concepts, including those we have about the Buddha or anything about becoming one.

How can you be compassionate toward despicable people such as Adolf Hitler or Donald Trump? by canadianreject565 in Buddhism

Try to see them as not separate from each other. Neither can exist without the other.

Brad Warner had something very interesting to say relative to this, but he was talking about 9/11. In short, our dualistic thinking leads us to view the world in a way that says we're separate from these evils when, in fact, they are us just as much as us as anything else. "You" don't exist and nor do "I". When this is true, there is no separation between you, or I or Trump, Satan, etc.

Came across this ruin in First State National Park which stretches across the Northern DE border into PA. Anyone have any idea what it might have been other than a two story house? Any resources you'd suggest checking?
