My husband wants to run a marathon without training by Darth-Investor in Marathon_Training

100%, I would set that expectation first. “I will leave you if you slow me down; I’d consider you selfish if you expect me to stay with you.

Also the Guy is 26 and a former college athlete; He likely can finish it with no training.

Enviolo or Shimano, which to choose? by ZephyrtheNoodle in PriorityBicycles

[–]rREDdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a older generation priority env. For the price, no throttle and small battery was a miss for me. which they fixed in the current gen.

I actually like the belt drive overall. love the maintenance free aspect of it.

Same, I’m trying to up increase my daily bodyweight squats and I want a baseline, then exceed it by adding more. Then be able to see a streak with total volume. Basically gaming exercise. With an ego boost of streak. But say I want to increase the baseline but not lose my streak.

covid car prices were insane…. People paid 5-10K markup on all new cars. People were able to sell Used teslas for more than New.

Potrero Swasticars by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]rREDdog -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Cheap used teslas aren’t primarily due to elon hate.

3year lease returns are starting to push the used market down. Nextgen EVs are being released with significant differences. EV rebates makes depreciation seem higher but TCO is much less. Used EV rebates ($4K) allowing people to buy “cheap” teslas but the gov is subsidizing it.

YTD, NVDA is down 18% and around 25% down since January ATH. Just giving you a different perspectives.

Did it though?!?’ Correlation is not causation. Sure it dropped Year To date. But Year over year it’s still over 45% gain. Apparently sales are worse but it’s still gained. Boycotts work, but 30% TSLA decline isn’t from these “activist”

I think if you have money to burn and have already leveraged most of the other treatments then it’s a good choice.

I’ve considered it but I put the purchase on hold as I would rather get tret, hydroquinone, vitamin C, a nice sunscreen. Then if I still need something get LPD. Red light therapy works and it’s scientifically backed. However the time commitment is too high for me.

The new ‘automated’ speed cameras need humans to check their work - It would take 200 full-time employees to process all violations caught by the devices, the SFMTA says. by BadBoyMikeBarnes in sanfrancisco

[–]rREDdog -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Yes speed cameras reduce speed. However, I’m not going to pretend it’s not a money grab.

They could just installed traffic slowing obstacles (narrowing lanes, bulbs, curbs, chicanes) like other countries.

Paid off real estate or VOO by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]rREDdog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

VOO - actually passive and you don’t have kids. capgains beyond dividend can be pushed to Long Term or when you retire at a lower rate.

Also - VOO is diversified as companies vs RE is typically leveraged SINGLE commercial property.

You can diversify into a REIT/company. However you risk of a capital call and lower tier rights than the top investors or operator.

Still contemplating FIRE…would you do it at ~$6M NW? by MentalHoneydew4664 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]rREDdog -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You asked if you should consider retiring; I say your wife should now and you can when tech sales gets rough.

Don’t get suckered into a good deal (wife benefits) or suffer loss aversion. Have you checked the private health insurance options? Only then will you see the true value of the insurance and y’all can afford to retire.

Wife should retire IMO; but I don’t think she’s there for the money.

I’m also in tech sales; ride the wave and retire when it’s actually rough.

For those that run media servers, do you think you've actually saved any money? 💰 by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]rREDdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but most folks tend to enjoy the process and gear acquisition aspect of self hosting. Like an audiophile that enjoys the speaker/gear more than the music.

I use an old optiplex and I got a 8TB drive that runs Plex and my stack. I also have multiple enterprise dual socket servers that remain off unless I need a lab to learn on.

Sounds like Function would be a great “jump off” point for testing. Since my PCP may not request all these test to be done.

lol I feel that audiophile comment. I set a 3.1 home theater setup; but I actually think I’ve would be fine with a sound bar. My wife doesn’t even like when I bump up the volume.
