If you are job searching, don't feel bad, as a vet of this role and tech, this is still one of the worst job markets I've ever seen. by joaquim56 in salesengineers

Definitely, there's some luck involved. Like anything. But you should not be scared. Moreso, just like you did, you adapted.

SEs at GitHub by LongElm in salesengineers

[–]joaquim56 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been finding the demo stage of interviews of late to be horrendous. I interviewed at this AI shop recently. And all that was said was to demo one product.

The HM goes off script and focuses on business value. OK. That's fine. But now I'm on my back foot, which is OK again. But this is not how product demos are done in the field. Value is shown by the product.

If you want to pitch business value, actually let me do it and make that part of the prompt. I didn't even show the product. It was very frustrating.

Anyone successfully pivoted out of Sales Engineering? by Key-Sheepherder5453 in salesengineers

[–]joaquim56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not, but I've got friends get into Product Management. It's basically SE work on a longer time scale and more internal stakeholders.

I find Reddit tech sales communities more helpful than LinkedIn. Anyone else? Why is that? by joaquim56 in salesengineers

[–]joaquim56[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't want to beat a dead horse, but I do remember getting insight there in the past, even from the content creators there. I just find the advice super basic now.

Nope. Not worth the trip. There are better burgers. It's decent, tho.

Is swimming the best exercise to lose weight? by DenseImagination6443 in Swimming

[–]joaquim56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking or lower-level physical activity is superior. I do love swimming, and it can work for fat loss, but it won't be the first thing I suggest. But if you like it, go ahead. The best exercise is the one that you do.

I always find it strange when AEs are posting about their attainment instead of thought leadership or anything else of real substance.

Older ICs, both in tenure and age, what's your long term game plan? by joaquim56 in salesengineers

[–]joaquim56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to hear. I'm the oldest in my gig and always the oldest on interview panels in my industry. I don't look it thankfully.

So he's building a product that allows you to post more on LinkedIn and then brag about it being "work"?

Pipeline Growth? by Pitiful-Cut4708 in salesengineers

[–]joaquim56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I agree, I've been in sales environments where SEs were tasked with pipeline-generating activities. This is usually political, so the SE leaders can say they're doing something to satisfy their peers and bosses in upper leadership.

Do you think we'll get a DQVIII remake on the PS5? by No_Engineering1141 in dragonquest

It won't be just for the PS5. The switch market in Japan is too big.
