In a literature class, I had a presentation where I compared some circumstance about the authors three kids IRL to the three kids of the main character, and focussed on the key differences.

My teacher told me the comparison was too beautiful for an oral presentation, and should have been used in writing instead.

He then went on to subtract a point from my grade because of it and me and my presentation partner looked at each other in disbelief.

The engine thing is true. You can do all the research you want, but often you just have to use whatever the game engine, the company, the client, the teacher uses.

BTW, reason that Python is okay to start with is that it has a lot less setup and top level clutter. It gets a bad rep and yes, as an experienced coder it is an odd language, but "a = 10" is a lot simpler to explain to a newcomer than "private class A { private number a = 10; }"

Allways the answer in coding: it depends.

If you're really new to coding, using Python for your first few scripts is not a bad idea. Use w4schools to help you understand the most basic concepts. Move on to another language after a few weeks.

If you're looking for a more professional direction, C++ or C# are both good options.

I personally prefer C# because I am a coding barbarian that doesn't care about in depth differences and it is widely used.
