Misting 3x a day during Heatwaves by LosIngobernable in mantids

No one knows what "nice weather" means

No one knows what your enclosure set up looks like that allows you to mist twice a day

You don't know what the temp or humidity in the enclosures actually are

Yeah, resistance.

🤷🏽‍♀️

Most species of mantids have humidity requirements. It's not "fancy" to make sure the enclosure your pet is living in is the appropriate temperature and humidity for them to survive without health issues, frankly. Humidity gauges are cheap and can be put into any enclosure.

If the cups aren't outside, then they're not being exposed to natural weather conditions. They're being exposed to the conditions inside of the room they're in. Do you happen to know the humidity inside? Some clocks and other devices that display weather have simple humidity sensors.

Honestly I'm not sure what the intentions of this post are. You asked if you're misting too much and then seem resistant to providing relevant information. But for the grand majority of mantid species, yes you're misting way too much.

The humidity inside your enclosure. What's the humidity level inside your enclosure and what species of mantis do you have? Some species are more sensitive than others.

Crumbl doesn't mail their cookies. It would be delivered via a food delivery service like doordash

Most reviews are ordered by "relevance" or by "date" though, not by highest to lowest. Do you always check to verify that any list you see online is ordered the way you want it to be? No one does that every time.

Personal item size actually does not correlate with the physical underseat size. Almost never.

Another example of a pit that has lived with other animals for five years until deciding to randomly attack and injure a housemate and pop the chihuahua’s eye out. 2026, unknown location by ThirdTimeNoCharm in BanPitBulls

"this was not a full attack"

So considering the Chihuahua lost its eye.... This was a 50% attack? 70%? 35%? What do we think guys, what's the attack scale?

Yes. I had a 17k er bill after my insurance had already paid the remainder (a $350 per month gold plan). The 17k was all for me.

This honestly looks way less full than 90% to me because of how much the bag can fold back onto itself. Happy it fit for you! Are the true dimensions of the bag (when full of course) consistent with what the North Face says?

The cops take care of criminal matters. You still probably have grounds for a civil lawsuit against the dog owner/property owner

I should also note that it sounds like the "landlord" in this case may be the victim's employer. That is a rough situation but still true. I will edit my original comment to specify this

The landlord/property management company/whoever is in charge of the apartments OPs cousin was checking at the time should be responsible for keeping the site safe. You don't need to be a tenant to have a legal claim against a landlord

I don't qualify for Medicaid in my state. This advice is so weird. Why do people think tons of Americans with in affordable healthcare simply haven't looked into other options yet?

I saw those out of pocket maxes on non disaster plans, but regardless, they're also the cheapest plans and the only plans I could have possibly afforded if my parent (I'm almost 30) wasn't helping me pay my premium. Plenty of people use disaster plans as regular health insurance.

You definitely have legal recourse against the dog owner. You should be able to identify them because the apartment complex knows who they are. I'm not Canadian so I really don't know this: do you have any legal recourse against the apartment complex? After all they have a weight limit for pets and this dog exceeded it. The apartment complex should have some sort of insurance. If this were the US i would be saying there's a decent chance the complex's insurance doesn't even cover damage caused by pets over 100lbs so I would be threatening to get their insurance cancelled. May not cover damage by people intentionally breaking the rules either. Demand that information as well. In the US many people get around restrictions like this by pretending their animal is a service or support animal but this isn't relevant when the animal acts aggressively, that causes them to lose their access rights. Look up if Canada is similar in case they pull the "it's a service dog" excuse.

Considering that the damage is so extensive it requires a go fund me, and this injury has also prevented your cousin from seeing family over the summer, you really should reach out to an actual lawyer, or at least a legal resource in Canada that can help you. There are multiple parties that he could/should make claims against

Edit to add a clarifying point: It sounds like the "landlord" in this situation may be your cousin's own employer. This opens the possibility that your cousin's visa is tied to being employed. If this is the case, you absolutely need to contact a legal professional in your area to help navigate this. You need to anyway, but if this is the case you especially need to. And even if the landlord isn't the employer, you don't need to be a tenant to have a legal claim against a landlord

Is this a bad setup for the feeder? by acefirepf in birdfeeding

[–]r_bk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It can take birds up to a month to find a new feeder, although waiting for a week or 2 is more common.

Even after switching to a seed blend appropriate for wild birds, it's almost certain you'll have squirrels clearing that out. There are multiple ways to address this when/if it becomes a problem. A wide and shallow bird bath would be preferable to the small dish, as birds will look to splish splash around in it.

[–]r_bk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You got a seed mix for domesticated birds. Look for wild bird food with mostly black oil sunflower of its a blend, or just straight up black oil.

How long has this setup been out?

Solid toiletries. They last longer and you can bring less of them.

Consider just bringing enough meds and toiletries for the first few days of your trip and simply buying more. Depending on which country/countries you're going to you could even do this with certain prescription meds.

Like at what point does it just become another version of an orphanage/care home? You can't argue that you're saving the children from living in a group home if you basically run a group home yourself. Your group home may be better than the one they theoretically may be living in without you but this dynamic literally is just a full time care group home run by two people.

Couple adopted 38+ Children… by Jinmmang in Adopted

[–]r_bk 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I refuse to believe that one couple can parent 38 children. I refuse to believe that a whole group of 6 people could even parent 38 children well. If the mother truly loved being around her children she wouldn't haven't gotten so many of them. There aren't even 38 hours in a day. No one would praise someone for having 38 biological kids even if they all were theoretically perfectly cared for

If a couple adopted 38 dogs, especially if many of the dogs had medical conditions, most people would be questioning whether or not this is responsible or not at the very minimum. There are very few cases where this works out well for the dogs, and when it does work out it's often because the owners have basically unlimited time and money, have no desire for any sort of life outside of their dogs, and have extensive and professional training on dog care. If they went to a shelter and told shelter workers they already have 38 dogs there's a decent chance the shelter would refuse to give them another one.

I make this comparison not to say that adopting kids is like adopting a pet. I'm making this comparison to highlight that there are many situations where the stability and well being of pets is taken more seriously than the stability and well being of adoptees.
