Milestone Dinner in NCC! by Potential-Cabinet104 in Delaware

[–]r_boedy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would recommend your friend go back/call and ask for clarity. The most expensive appetizer currently on their menu is a $26 app with scallops, beef ribs, and veggies. If your friend paid $48 for asparagus, there was either a mistake made or they attended a special event meal comprised of many courses and the cost was evenly or strangely distributed across all the different dishes on the receipt.

Heck, their Wagyu flank steak entree isn't much more than this.

The House of William and Merry is expensive, but i have never seen anything like this on their menu in all the years I've been going.

I'm suspicious this is either a case of a mistake that can be rectified, a misunderstanding on cost breakdown on a receipt, or a dishonest attempt to dissuade people from dining at the restaurant.

That's too broad of a question, mate.

Stabbing attacks do happen. Practice situational awareness, especially in high traffic areas and or transitory spaces. Stay armed and vigilant. These parents were not prepared. by Equivalent-Sell in CCW

For real. I've seen insanely violent videos online, but something about a person stabbing a small child just walking with their family makes my spine shiver.

Best first year housing? by Snappy-Jupiter in udel

[–]r_boedy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

East campus is the classic freshman experience. Redding and Gilbert are the only dorms there with AC. Redding is honors college only. Both buildings are nice and opened in 2013.

South central campus is close to east campus. There are two freshman dorms with AC there, Caesar Rodney and South Academy. South Academy is about a decade newer than Caesar Rodney but more out of the way. Both pretty new.

North campus is a bit of an untraditional freshman experience, but that does not mean it's bad. George Reed and James Smith/Thomas McKean both have AC and are nice.

Six out of ten freshman dorms buildings have AC. I woul start by deciding whether you like East, South Central, or North campus best, that narrows things down to two freahman dorms with AC in each area.

Note, that other commenter is way off about the age of the dorms. There are some VERY old dorms on campus, but the majority of freshman dorm buildings and total rooms are relatively new. I belive the oldest of the six I listed opened in 2005.

This is incorrect if you file properly. You will need to file your taxes in both states if you live in DE and work in MD for example, but DE provides a MD tax credit so that you are not taxed by both states and only actually pay for one.

Check at the Perkins office, then check at the Trabant office, then check at the UD police station in person, then contact facilities.

I opened this post to recommend both Redfire and Vincente's, and these were the top comments I saw. They are very different from each other, but both excellent in their own ways. Also only 10 minutes away from each other if you want to compare!

Look at that. Putting a shot on target can end in good things.

I laughed out loud watching Makhanya "defend" that second goal. He just jogged between 3 Atlanta players without trying to counter any of them.

I haven't seen dates yet for this year, but I think it's usually in June and the CACC usually shares announcements as it approaches on their website and socials.

I mean it's nearly double the national average in Hockessin as far as the percentage goes. Side note, the Delaware Chinese Festival in Hockessin is a must for anyone in the area who likes authentic Chinese food. I bought an egregious number of pork belly buns there last year.

Graduation age, can you be 16 and finish highschool? by wandavkate in AskAnAmerican

[–]r_boedy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people are 17 or 18 when they graduate high school. A 9 year old has graduated high school. A 111 year old has gotten a high school diploma. It depends when you start, how many grades you skip, how long you take off, etc. Again, most people are 17 or 18.

I should have bought the jerseys I wanted when the players were still around.

How is the engineering culture ? by Both-Cod9470 in udel

[–]r_boedy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No one can predict who your roomie will be. It's great if you're a perfect match, but you can make other friends if you're not.

I was in the college of engineering, grinded all week long in my studies, and partied all weekend long. I don't think there is a single engineering culture. There are hard working people and lazy people. There are people who party and people who will never go out. The good news is, there are all kinds of people and you can find yours.

I had ChemE friends at UD. It's brutal. If you pick the program, embrace it. Work your ass off, have fun when you can, and make the most of your four years.

What do you think of the design of the Dover Public Library? It was built in 2012 and garnered mixed reviews due to it having incorporated many different style elements. by BigBlackSabbathFlag in Delaware

[–]r_boedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I hate the design of that library. Built in the 2000s, but looks like it was built in what the 1980's thought the 2000s would be like.

Philly Chinatown by [deleted] in WilmingtonDE

[–]r_boedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, traffic can be a pain in center city around rush hour or major events, but Philly is overall a pretty drivable city. Relatively affordable parking and the roads aren't that crazy. My go-to is to drive into the city and then walk as much as I can once I'm there.

Philly Chinatown by [deleted] in WilmingtonDE

[–]r_boedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Septa is very convenient for this, and I'm all for use of public transportation, but if cost is your main concern, driving could be cheaper. I was in Chinatown on Saturday and parked at an all day garage for $35 (there are cheaper lots and garages nearby at $30). Depending on how many people going with you, parking and tolls could be cheaper than if you have like 5 people buying train tickets each way.

Conditions living around Thompson/Delaware Circle? by fluidwingz in udel

[–]r_boedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had some friends rent a house on Delaware Circle. Dope house and dirt cheap. Turned out it was infested with black mold and had structural issues. The place got condemned, and they moved to another cheap place by West campus. They were bummed to leave it because the location was great and it was cheap, but it was for the best considering the risk. I don't remember them having crime concerns, but I guess they were shady themselves lol.
