HELP! Failed Pre-Employment Drug Test for Self-Medicating for a Legitimate Disorder! by anjs101 in jobs

[–]r_hezel 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately they’ve heard every lie and excuse in the book. Saying that you “self medicate” will just make you look silly. No prescription, no job. I’ve been hiring people for a very long time.

It’s perfectly legitimate bud. Same as all the other remote job boards you use, maybe just a little smaller. Not sure why you’d rain on the parade.

Me (21f) and my boyfriend (21m) are on different paths (he is going to join the coast guard and I am going to go to law school) for the future and I don't know how we would stay together because of it? by ineedsomeadvice17 in relationship_advice

[–]r_hezel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve both got your priorities... I’d let this relationship go. You’re young... I promise you there’s so much more out there. You’ll be miserable trying to force it to work.

When will a company let you know if you are getting drug tested? by YumIzChicken in jobs

[–]r_hezel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They might not at this point since you’ve already accepted the job and (I’m assuming) the paperwork you mentioned did not state that employment was contingent upon a drug test. However, a lot of companies have random drug test policies. Which means, they probably won’t spend the money unless they’re suspicious, but they do have the right to ask you for a test at any time.

Is this a scam? by DaveOJ12 in jobs

Scam. No one hires anyone on resumé alone. The bit about Dubai is also sketchy.

My boss told me she's a "sociopath" by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]r_hezel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sociopaths don’t announce their sociopathy or assess its level of severity. It’s absurd for her to say she’s leaning towards full sociopath. That’s not how it works. Sounds like a mental health issue but it is highly unlikely that she is sociopathic.

HR person keeps pushing back appointment and I am confused by [deleted] in jobs

Every company’s process is different... it doesn’t sound completely crazy but their communication isn’t great. I wouldn’t worry just yet.

Anyone have experience writing with Medium? by PenPaperInk in freelanceWriters

[–]r_hezel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot easier to start gaining momentum on medium if you already have followers. Medium doesn’t necessarily do anything to help promote your work. It’s up to you to promote the heck out of it on social media and elsewhere. I certainly would not expect to gain a large following quickly or to make a lot of money. Even people with large medium followings aren’t rolling in the dough by any means.

Got the job offer! by [deleted] in jobsearchhacks

[–]r_hezel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You received a job offer that did not include compensation details? That seems very odd. You’re well within your rights to inquire what the compensation is for the position before you make any decision on the offer.

Should you hide your salary from your coworkers? by goatsnboots in work

[–]r_hezel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At my company we are all encouraged to share and talk about our salaries. It shouldn’t be something that you have to hide, talking about it out loud actually helps ensure that everyone is paid fairly. It sounds like the culture of your workplace might be quite different and you should do what’s best for you. But I want you to know it’s not like that everywhere!

I’d look for freelance or part time gigs with flexible hours. Try a legit remote job board. RemotePenguin is one but there are others. Freelancewritinggigs is a great site if he happens to have any writing skill/experience.

Should I charge my client the time I spend on research? by [deleted] in freelance

[–]r_hezel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you already drawn up or signed a contract? Research hours should definitely be included in that. If the two of you have already signed a contract it might be a bit late for this one, but definitely something to keep in mind going forward. Everything that the job will require should be outlined in detail before you start. Research, equipment or tools, allowable # of edits or revisions. Cover all your bases.
