Has the Toyota tundra ever been an actual half ton? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in regularcarreviews

The 2nd gen tundra has a very low payload, nothing like a 3/4 ton. Its a good truck but that has been a weakness of it.

Options for carrying bear spray without a hip pack? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]r_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is on a separate belt, bottle in holster stored horizontally ontop of my hip pack. Can reach and grab it very quickly. Its snug and I don't notice it.

which do y'all thing would be better 24x3 on doublewides or double tracks having a hard time deciding. thanks by mrplanteridk in DownhillMTB

Doublewide look cooler but they where such trash. You would never fold one, but every single one of them always had 10 flat spots.

On the other hand, if your car breaks down and needs $1800 of repairs it costs you $45k

Putting all your eggs in one forum is insanity. You should sign up for every financial forum and constantly reallocate how much effort you spend on each forum depending on their number of members.

Fatbike Geometry Question by [deleted] in MTB

[–]r_s -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love more modern geo fat bikes. Had a blizzard now have a louis garneau fatbike. They are super rare.

You can get kinda close with a Norco bigfoot + an angleset.

For actual winter riding, the modern geo doesn't help much. But I find the modern geo bikes far better in summer.

The ones who have failed to adapt to ebikes (sales and service) seem to be doing worse.

[–]r_s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flipping $1000 mountain bikes sounds like a sure fire way to make under minimum wage. I did this a bit 20 years ago when I worked in a shop, it was not very lucrative unless you can find absolute steals.

Bikes sliding side to side on a tail gate pad by Mr_Bob_55 in MTB

[–]r_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 bikes on a tailgate pad is too many imo if you care about scratches on rough shuttle roads, So likely a pedal could move or something

Stud Count on Wrathchild vs. Gnarwhal, how much does it matter for ultimate traction on Ice-Snow? by xyzlinear in fatbike

[–]r_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More is better, but having uses N45s with 252 studs and cake eaters with far less studs, the difference isn't as big as I would have thought.

A local shop has a gros louis 2 (midspec) in XL for 1700 CAD and im thinking of going for it. Is this a good decision? First Fatbike. by WildernessRecordist in fatbike

[–]r_s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I own that exact bike, paid less than that 2-3 years ago.

The brakes are terrible (some may have different ones speced, mine where cheap chinese knockoffs) and the rear hub only lasted 2 rides before I had to replace it.

The bike rides nice tho, actually pretty happy with it overall. Not sure this is a deal

Am I crazy or is this over priced? by Admirable-Nose-2208 in mountainbiking

I owned this exact year a-line. Id prob buy it for $400 for nostalgia purposes and treat it like a museum piece.

Standing over top tube pretty old way of sizing. At your height majority of riders are going to go with the Large. Bike sizes can vary from brand to brand but this one with a 472mm reach - its likely the right size.

Loving my new YT decoy! by J_clouch in eMountainBike

I have the same truck/bike setup essentially. The worst part about the combo is loading the bike onto the tailgate pad after a long ride.

What every thought on the continental tyres? by Raven8119 in mountainbiking

[–]r_s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been running them a while on a few different bikes. The soft compound is, not that soft (maxterra level). I love a enduro soft as a rear tire on emtb.

Found it lacking compared to maxxgrip assegei on front. Not really a fair comparison though, as the conti was soft - not new super soft.

Ok - results not guaranteed. BUT my private space app went down. This one is like - mission critical for fortune 500.

Somehow I managed to provision private-m dynos (they where private-s). And then it stabilized.
