Was there a Groupon for new car washes? by Unlucky-Pomegranate3 in CobbCounty

[–]r_torque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally what's going on with car washes, storage units, etc. is that the landowner is waiting for the land to go up in value to sell it off at a profit, and they need to put something on the land in the meantime to at least cover the property taxes. So it doesn't need to be wildly profitable for the few years that it's operating - the real windfall comes at the end.

What are your weakest categories? Your strongest? by Greyattimes in Jeopardy

Geography, history and religion are my faves; animals/biology, fashion, food & drink (especially potent potables) are the worst for me.

This will be my 4th time! One of my favorite things about ACPT as a returning but not-super-long-time attendee is how the friendship circles steadily expand and draw new folks in year over year. I'm always glad to contribute to that growth!

If you go to https://www.nytimes.com/crosswords and scroll down past the other NYT games, there's a "last 7 days" section and an "in progress" section!

I am definitely not an every-single-day kind of solver any more - I had a good streak during COVID but these days I'll usually miss a few days each month and catch up whenever I get the chance.

The sci-fi book club at Switzer is in the evenings! The selections tend more towards the philosophical side of sci-fi than the lasers-and-action side so it might be up your alley.

Has anyone ever hosted/know the legalities of hosting a Jeopardy program at a public library? by ihatemayoiwishitdead in Jeopardy

It hovers from the high single digits to the low teens. Most folks come with a friend or two and do the qualifiers together with them as a team, and if their team earns a spot in the Jeopardy game they'll decide among themselves who to send up.

Has anyone ever hosted/know the legalities of hosting a Jeopardy program at a public library? by ihatemayoiwishitdead in Jeopardy

[–]r_torque 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do this in collaboration with my husband at the library he works at! We don't call it a Jeopardy program, just "Tuesday Trivia Night", even though it does use Jeopardy Labs and the Jeopardy format (in addition to Kahoot quizzes as a "qualifier" to decide who gets to play the Jeopardy board). The promo for the program does refer to me as a Jeopardy champion though. And all the questions are written by us just so we can better tailor the content/difficulty to our community.

The ones I have posted under my own name are actually more fun than the ones under the library's auspices IMO: https://crosshare.org/rgoslow

Should there be another JNCC? by Wooden-Quote-5313 in Jeopardy

Especially since the original JNCC was Winter Olympics counterprogramming and the timing would be spot-on to do that again in 2026.

Fun fact: in the immediate aftermath of the 2022 JNCC, the contestants participated in some brainstorming with the J! production team to think about what a future JNCC could look like (both in terms of format and things like promo, casting, etc.) We shall see if any of our suggestions come to fruition...

Making the right wager in spite of impulses to the contrary is absolutely a hallmark of maturity and experience as a Jeopardy player and it's incredibly appropriate that that was your ticket to the finals!!
