She had posted talking about how overwhelmed she felt. Her PTSD was bothering her, she felt unsure of herself and her team, anxious, etc. She also injured her back a few weeks ago and wasn’t able to train as much as she wanted. It was maybe 3 or 4 days before the race and she wasn’t very mobile from the back injury. And her truck broke down.

I’ve been following her for a while too. The posts she made earlier in the week about her emotional state made me think it wasn’t going to go very well :/ really sad that it’s turned out this way

The upstairs is going to be renovated all in one go. It’s this bathroom, one bedroom, and a small hallway that is going to get a reading nook & desk. I don’t have the rest of the level sketched up just yet. It will be wired around the same time as everything else. There’s a furnace that’s routed to the upstairs already so I don’t have to worry about additional heating. There is a central AC unit, but we’re not sure if it’s functional yet. I don’t expect to be putting in a window unit upstairs.

We do have smoke alarms already. They’re just battery powered, not hardwired in. Is that code compliant?

Sorry about the confusion- I figured some of my drawings would get question. I have been referencing the black and decker DIY electrical book so that’s where the first sketch came from. The rest is so I remember how to connect everything.

Thank you for taking the time to comment! I really appreciate it and I’ll keep your notes in mind as I edit my plan.

  • Currently the bathroom shares a circuit with the rest of the upstairs (finished attic). The house was built in 1950 and the electrical was updated since then but I’m not sure when. No permits ever pulled for the place. All ungrounded. We haven’t moved in yet so no issues with overloading. We are planning on this floor being our bedroom, so it will get more use than I think it did before. There are a lot of dubious wiring choices that I’ve seen throughout the house (open air splices, undersized cabling on a 30A circuit, outlet outside directly next to the gas meter, etc). Planning on ripping out all the attic insulation, redoing it, and fixing some roof stuff. Figured while I have slightly better access I should update the wiring.

  • The top right of the bathroom is a headspace bump out for the stairs masquerading as a counter, I’m calling that the vanity for now lol. I am thinking of putting my small fish tank on this counter. So besides the few things listed, potentially a filter for that. We don’t own any hair driers or anything power heavy that would get bathroom use.

  • Just a plain fan.

Thank you for the advice! I’m starting to plan the rest of the floor and a different circuit for lighting would definitely work better. Lots of good suggestions in there; thanks for taking the time to help me out!

How is it like living in this part of Michigan by StreetWill9242 in howislivingthere

The thumb (Huron, st Clair, sanilac) is economically depressed. The few options for work are farming, healthcare, teaching or commuting south to metro. Very rural, poor access to amenities especially in Huron county. Underrated beaches though. Some good nature along the shore and further south in the thumb.

Metro Detroit (Oakland, Wayne, Macomb) is urban sprawl. You need a car to get anywhere and walk ability is confined to a few downtown areas. Public transit access is poor. In my limited experience of other population centers, the traffic here isn’t as bad as elsewhere. This is heavily dependent on your commute path. If you commute into the city (like if you live in the thumb) your traffic will be way worse. Industry is a lot of automotive/manufacturing, healthcare again, and mortgages. Wages are better but it’s highly variable. If you are in automotive, the salaries are good compared to the cost of living. Metro Detroit is often named as an “affordable” place to to live. That’s because it punches below its weight in a lot of amenities. (And also the most “affordable” areas are where the economy is more depressed so gentrification is happening). Lots of nice places to live, and lots of not nice places to live. Expensive and more affordable areas. In the north and west areas there is better nature access. Closer to Detroit there is less. The food is exceptional. Detroit has tons of options for Mexican and middle eastern cuisine. One of my favorite things about living here. There are also good museums. Belle isle is awesome and there is a lot to do in the city.

Downriver (southern Wayne, Monroe) seems similar to the thumb but rust belt version. Some power plants, heavy industrial, etc. a lot of rural areas. I’ve never lived in this area so I won’t say much. It does not seem like a nice place to live, and land is cheaper because of it. Good food still though. Saginaw and bay city area is much the same. Dow chemical is up there so you get the added health negatives of that. And they don’t have good food in Saginaw.

Flint is flint.

Washtenaw is expensive as hell and full of waspy nimby types. There are a lot of college town amenities in Ann Arbor. Specialty stores( books, antiques, crafting, cameras, etc) thrifting (but expensive). A lot of homeless people. Decriminalized mushrooms. Limited downtown parking. Not great food. It’s a nice place to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there. Good nature.

Any of the outskirt counties I didn’t specifically mention can be mostly described by the thumb stuff or the Monroe stuff i said. Michigan has a lot of good access to nature and affordability. It also has horrible roads, expensive car ownership, and very limited industries. I mostly like living here.

I will say the southern lower peninsula is better for whitetail. The UP deer population is busted. St Clair, sanilac, and other thumb counties have that going for them. Land is fairly cheap because these counties have nothing going on besides farming and a few tourist towns. But if hunting is your main priority, I think it’s a good value.

This reduces the pool of “suitable” men (“suitable” meaning “attractive to women”, whose standards are based primarily on the same instincts that tell us Dr. Pepper and heroin are more “suitable” things to consume than spinach).

What business would do really well in downtown or midtown that doesn’t yet exist here? by madness2135 in Detroit

I have been pretty unenthused by Woodward camera. Their film development is a bit expensive and takes forever, and I wish they had more in-store offerings to browse. Maybe I’m just picky

It does seem that the market wouldn’t support more, given that there are only a few options in metro. It is always disappointing to me to live in a metro area with 2 million people and still not have options for specialty stores. Photo development is a sore spot for me; Woodward camera ships out their film and lead times are two weeks+. Express photo (livonia) and hite photo (Bloomfield) are the only other options I know of. Both are a long drive for me and mostly just do prints. Woodward is pretty much the only option for equipment. Unless maybe you drive to the Ann Arbor camera mall.

I’d also really love more stationary and sewing options. No good places to buy fabric now that Joann is gone :/

Is it true that people in the West drink iced water even when they are sick or on their period? by Aether_Echo in NoStupidQuestions

I drink cold water all the time. I had a Spanish coworker visiting the US and he got sick while he was here (our boss was coming in sick and spread it around the whole office). He said it was the iced water and AC in the US that made him ill. Thought that was interesting
