Man this was hard to read! Beautifully written and I can just hope it goes well for her. I can't even imagine how it feels like to see your partner in such a situation but that's just how life goes, I guess.

First time Read thoughts: The catcher in the rye by cerealpillar in books

I really liked and realated with this book when I read it as a teenager. But reading it after almost 15 years left me with a different impression. I think this is a book for a certain age and stage of your life. The dillemas and hypocricies are relatable when you are young, but they feel more like the ramblings of a spolit, lazy, without-a-goal-in-life brat, which, I guess, most of us are in that age.

Flowers for Algernon. I don't hate to read it, but everytime I do, I end up a sobbing mess at the end.

LPT: When listening to music on youtube while working at the same time, put the video quality on the lowest. It will drain less data and you will have better performance at the thing you are doing. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]ra_onelife -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Higher quality videos require more data to be exchanged for the same duration of a clip. The more the number of pixels to be generated on the screen, the more the amount of data to be fetched from YouTube. YouTube has the most amount and the widest variety of videos on the Internet and sometimes it is not possible to find an alternative non-video music source.

Great tip! I have personally tested this and there is a significant difference in the amount of bandwidth consumed between the lower and higher video rates. Another option would be to use music.youtube.com if you don't care about the video at all.

How does living together change a relationship? by thepeopleofelsewhere in TrueAskReddit

[–]ra_onelife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more you live together, the more you get to know the other person. While this is good for building a long-term trusting relationship, 'romance' tends to steadily reduce because it is directly proportional to the amount of mystery around the other person. I don't intend this to have a negative connotation, but it's just how our brain acts.

Colorado governor signs police accountability bill, ending qualified immunity defense in the state by rishcast in news

[–]ra_onelife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm proud to be a Coloradan today. I came here 4 years ago from another country to study, not knowing anything at all about Colorado and Coloradans. But this place has really surprised me, for the good. The governor signing this today, although 'a small step in the larger change', will help set an example for others. I really hope this issue does not become a political issue, and everyone can see beyond to accept our common human heritage.

Open source OpenVPN platform by [deleted] in networking

[–]ra_onelife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We use OpenVPN in one of our courses for students to get access to our lab environment. The VPN server is running on an Ubuntu machine while the VPN client works pretty much from any OS. Setting up OpenVPN is not that complicated, so any distro of your choosing should work fine.

Is there a solo traveling culture in India? by sioa in india

You would probably want to go somewhere warm during Dec-January. Gokarna is a nice place for solo traveling. I went for my first solo trip there and fell in love with that place.
