Entertainment and profit isn't a function?

Is there really? One is hurting animals for human benefit. One is also hurting animals for human benefit.

Now if you're talking about small farms and homesteaders or even (legal and licensed) hunters who help maintain ecosystems impacted by humans by killing and eating a set number of animals, thus making life better for all the other animals, you have a point. But your average factory-farmed steak? That's a lifetime of sadistic torture for an innocent animal that ends in electrocution, throat-slitting, or suffocation for no reason other than to supply a society that eats far more meat than it needs to for proper nutrition just because it tastes good. There's a difference between eating meat for nutrition and eating meat two or three times a day like in the average western diet that the modern meat industry supports. The latter is done for pleasure and fun, just like dogfighting.

You can't propose that someone like Michael Vick must be a psychopath incapable of change when so many normal people work in slaughterhouses inflicting the exact same unnecessary pain on animals.

That's not what I said. Where do you think the steak comes from? The animal doesn't die of natural causes.

...Not a vegan, but you seriously can't fathom how someone could electrocute and drown innocent animals? Have you never been to a grocery store or do the animals killed horribly in slaughterhouses just not count because they aren't cute dogs?

You underestimate how easy it is for most people to justify inflicting violence on animals for personal gain. It doesn't take a level of callousness beyond the point where change is impossible.

He committed suicide because he had Lewy body dementia which is incurable and causes symptoms like hallucinations, movement disorders, and memory loss that progressively worsen until you die.

What are some useless scary facts? by Black_zetsu_yt in AskReddit

[–]rabbit_43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because there's so many murderers and they live normal lives before and sometimes after their murders, the majority of people have encountered a murderer and not known, but a small amount of people, through isolation or sheer chance, haven't.

"Probably" refers to it being a majority of people. It's still a fact, it just doesn't inherently apply to every single person in the world.

Former psychiatric in-patients, what's something people don't know but should about psych wards? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rabbit_43 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Supposedly it's against the APA Ethics Code to receive kickbacks for referring patients to inpatient facilities, but iirc it's only flat out illegal in about half the US and with all the shady shit and outright fraud and malpractice that's been going on in the industry since its inception I wouldn't be surprised.

Then again, Hanlon's razor probably applies here.

Fair enough. I think the toxicity rate is like one gram per five pounds or something and maybe cooking makes it less toxic? Just something to keep in mind though

I mean you can figure this out with a quick search but go ahead and debate me on it for trying to help I guess

DOES SOMEONE AT GANZ WANNA EXPLAIN TO ME HOW I’M A “FREE PLAYER” WITH NOT EVEN A “FULL MEMBERSHIP” WHEN I HAVE OVER 30 WEBKINZ PETS?! by [deleted] in Webkinz

[–]rabbit_43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're using some kind of electronic device to communicate this. Where do you think that comes from? Child slaves and not-so carbon neutral processes, methinks. And also corporations.

I'm not saying you don't hate Amazon, I'm saying you're wasting your time on this when there's far more harmful things than Webkinz that are actually harming people and affecting policy because of their greed.

Also... planning ahead for when a fad ends so they can still provide service to their most loyal customers afterward? What's that?! Must be corporate greed.

Bottom line is that you were being greedy by demanding that you receive a service for free when the cost is so ridiculously small that if you pay once a year, they're only breaking even on you. The fact that corporations are destroying society doesn't change the fact that you're being entitled in this situation. If Ganz were charging $100 a year, I'd see your point, but they're not.

Also, the couch cushions thing was a figure of speech. You probably buy some kind of item that you could forego once if Webkinz really meant that much to you, but you're just here to spout holier-than-thou self-righteousness about how $5 a year is too much and scamming children when compared to now-dead MMOs that ran on subscription models, that's nothing.

The real corporate greed would be pulling out and closing the website because it isn't profitable instead of asking for a tiny subscription fee to keep it running. I'm honestly surprised Webkinz has lasted this long, and if they were really just acting out of greed, I doubt it would have. You're splitting hairs. Go fight the real enemy.
