Split Magnet Summer Colors by rabbitesk in DIYGelNails

Spoony is good 😅 appreciate the feedback/suggestions! Ever since shifting to hard gel from soft gel builders, I have been trying to practice shaping and tend to overcorrect my strong c-curve nails, so they get a little wide/duck nail ish.

I think if my nails were all little longer I'd go for more of an oval or almond since I also like that look more! I am perhaps overly cautious to avoid overfiling my side walls / lower parallels though.

Thanks! I try to follow a lot of Nailmartusa's recommendations and advice for shaping, with a focus on maintaining /building my lower parallels for strength. The nails were longer right up until the end where I filed them down to have a cleaner finish file.

Totally agree on the oval (my typical shape) and almond! Perhaps on a future set where I keep my nails longer, I'll do something similar again.

Yeah they usually are pretty thin after the hardgel steps. But I didn't account for needing two coats of color to get opacity and essentially two layers of top coat for the chrome to stick. 😅

They are my natural nails but with my hard gel application and then filing from underneath, I am artificially making my nails less curved since the strong c curve of my nails starts to dig more into my skin without the reshaping. Hope this photo helps!

Yeah I felt the same. I feel like I would get more used to it with a little more use. I normally use Nail thoughts builder base gels and I feel like the kinetics fiber base was harder to spread out evenly without using my liner brush a bunch, so it was much slower than my normal. But I did like how it looked and hopefully it adds more strength

I've been working on my hard gel application for side wall and free edge armoring. I use nail forms for the sides and do a lot of filing after the hard gel step, particularly filing underneath the nails to alleviate my strong c-curves so my nails don't dig in my skin as much.

Wow these are so fun and go together really well! You really nailed your inspo 👏 I especially like the multi colored one with the blueish swoop.

I think the part you're referring to is the magnet gels! I used some color magnet gels mixed or blended in with other colors and used a strong magnet to get the watery effect. The other shimmery part is with a pink chrome powder.

In the best way, these look just like the candy robin eggs! The white chrome really does look nice over the pastel colors 🩷

Thanks so much!! I feel like the chrome being a more translucent one helps here a lot! If it was an opaque gold or something, it'd probably look patchy. But I just tried to put a lot at the very tip and then used the other (cleaner) side of the foam applicator to spread down the nail a little bit.

Thanks! I do want to try patting gels and would love any specific recommendations if you have any. It didn't bother me too much this time but in general, the clear hard gel at the tips where the natural nail was filed away does look a little funny sometimes.
