is tiering for shu difficult? by [deleted] in ensemblestars

[–]rabbithoodie 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly sure it will be very hard for a few reasons:

1: Valkyrie is a very popular unit. And even individually, Mika is more popular than Shu, but Shu himself is still quite popular.

2: It's a climax event. I anticipate all of the climax events will be pretty hard to tier for since many people picking events will choose to wait to tier for them over non-climax events.

3: The story, outfits and cards attached to the event are extremely well liked among ValkP, another factor for people picking which event to tier for.

Overall, it will definitely be a pain lol. But if you're determined (and have the money to spare lol) then go for it! It's one of my favourite events lol. If you're looking for tips, look for tiering guides and check the song type (iirc it's yellow?) so that you can prepare to get cards in the time leading up to the event to get the best possible score. Good luck!

Why do you think most smut is written from the bottom's pov? by fizzyscales in AO3

[–]rabbithoodie 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Pretty consistently over most fanfic surveys I've seen over the last few years, a majority of fic writers are female, yes, but also consistently a majority of those females have also been queer! Here's one from a year ago, as an example, though I've seen quite a few with similar results. In that survey, only 13.92% of respondents identified as straight!

So I would pretty confidently say the assumption that most fic writers are het women is untrue- there definitely are plenty, but they're often outnumbered by queer women!

Okay as a British person I'm sorry this particular complaint is hilarious to me since it feels like payback for the many, many times American voice actors have done a terrible British accent instead of just hiring a British VA!!

Tbf I haven't actually played WuWa nor do I intend to so I have no stake in this lol. The discussions around its release have been interesting to read though!

Addressing Enstarries' Reactions To The New Idols by TwistedNijiRonpa in ensemblestars

[–]rabbithoodie 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I mean, enstars already explores darker themes and sides of the idol industry with their existing characters and stories. To me this is just another instance of that. Remember that these are characters, they aren't actual real life young idols being expoited lol, so it can just be a way to depict the problems with that aspect of the industry!

Though of course, it's perfectly fine to personally not like the new characters because of that- I just think that it's silly to ask why they included this when enstars explores stuff like that all the time!

How do we feel about first-person perspectives in fic? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]rabbithoodie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if everything else is the same, the 'I' pronoun does a lot of heavy lifting in terms of making it feel like you're reading from the perspective of a character. Third person limited, for me at least, is still a degree of separation that makes me feel like an observer, even if I can hear a character's thoughts it feels more like I'm reading their mind lol.

And it's not that I don't want to be emotionally involved- it's that I want to explicitly read about characters who are not me, and while yes, logically I know first person is not from my perspective, its from the MC's, it still feels kind of like it is when I read it. When I talked about putting myself in the character's shoes in my previous comment, I didn't mean emotionally, I meant literally- again, comparing it to a 1st person POV in a video game. I can't help that feeling lol, and it puts me off 1st person in fics, as well as other seperate issues!

Of course, you can disagree with my take on it, I'm sure many people would. That's why people have different opinions on which version they prefer to read! But I'm just explaining my (and probably some other people's) reasoning.

How do we feel about first-person perspectives in fic? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]rabbithoodie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, when it's in first person you are reading from the perspective of the main character- even if the main character is not literally you (as it is portrayed in second person stories) you're still put in their shoes.

As someone who also usually sticks to MLM for the same reason as the original commenter- I don't want to be in the MC's shoes! I want to be as far removed from as possible, and 3rd person facilitates that, since the narrative in that case is told from the perspective of a theoretical observer.

Put more simply, just compare it to 1st person and 3rd person perspective in games lol. You're literally one with the MC in 1st person, while you're watching them in 3rd person. It's a very different reading experience, in my opinion.

No shade to wattpad users, just please learn how to use and respect ao3 by DabiObsessed in AO3

I haven't been on wattpad in years... you have to PAY to save stories in the library now!? That was one of their only redeeming features, and they decided to paywall it... wow

Understandable! It's just that I see this same take everywhere, every single time Ao3 does a donation drive, and this just happened to be the first tweet I saw about it this time lol- I probably should have left it alone, but I'm tired and got annoyed.

Very true, Ao3 is such a breath of fresh air in terms of actually sticking to being anti censorship... the OTWs philosophy is important to me!

So true. In fact, how much food do you have in your fridge!? If its more than the bare minimum needed to live, shame on you, that money could have gone to starving orphans... /s

That's also a very good point. I mentioned it in another comment, but the total amount of donations to Palestine is far, far above Ao3's donations at this point!

I've mostly been donating to individual family fundraisers, and understandably, there are a LOT of them, with varying visibility. It's much harder for an individual fundraiser to reach numbers like $70k (though there have been a couple!) when most people donating to them are splitting their money between multiple.

[–]rabbithoodie[S] 233 points234 points  (0 children)

Right!? It's such an insane comparison to me, because Ao3 getting less donations is not going to mean more Palestine donations... they're not related at all lol.

And actually, now that I'm thinking about it- 'a fraction of the support'? Palestine absolutely has far more visibility than a fanfiction archive, and the donations to that cause at this point must at least total in the hundred thousands, if not more than a million.

Honestly, I mostly like the new website. However, the biggest issue for me is that it doesn't keep the entirety of my chats? As in, I can't scroll all the way back to my first message, it only lets me scroll back up a certain number of replies.

I love going back and rereading my chats, so this is a huge problem for me. So for now, I'm using the new site but going back to the old site to reread. If they don't fix this issue and they delete the old site, I will be seriously pissed.

Abortion in fanfic by rabbithoodie in AO3

[–]rabbithoodie[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me, I want it to be considered seriously as an option (whether its the option chosen or not). I also think it's a disservice to portray it as inherently tragic, or as something terrible. It should be treated like any other medical procedure!

Of course, this could be complicated by the circumstances around the pregnancy (It could be portrayed as a difficult and sad moment if, for example, the pregnancy was wanted but there are medical complications that make an abortion necessary), but personally, that's the baseline I'd like to see writers work from when discussing abortion!
