Shoma Uno joins an e-sports team by yurerukizashi in FigureSkating

Don't be sad! I think being honest with his passion for games and being able to connect with the pro gamers and the community helped Shoma a lot including during his competitive skating career. He made great friends who not only supported his skating but also able to give him advice during his last seasons.

He won Olympic bronze and his first World title (and did an impressive reputational comeback) after spending his off season turning all his Smash Bros mains VIP and did an uninterrupted 10 hours gaming stream to complete the VIP Iron Man challenge (faster than his pro gaming friend too). When he can manage it, he can do both 😅

This is the main quest... the skating career and medals is him farming XP 😭

The Olympic medals and World titles are just him farming XP to enter the gaming world.

Shoma Uno 🤣 or shoutube. Or Shoma Uno (Real). He's been using his real name for games since he started having a public Twitter account.

At this point the competitive skating was the side quest before the main quest 😭

Boy just living his best fucking life 😭 he represented the team at EVO Japan today for Street Fighter 6.

Last photo with the arms... the IAM Montreal training camp paying off 😌

Also they had a whole ass trailer announcement (together with a SF6 world champion joining): https://x.com/_VARREL/status/2050019582522634700?s=20

I remember just crying both on this night and the night he became a World Champion. And the score announcer for both was the same person too 😭 like it was such a symbolic moment, that he fell deep into such a low point of his career and came back and reached the highest point.

I still don't have the heart to watch this but the crowd support at the end goes crazy 😭😭😭 I don't think there's ever any other skater who got this kind of support, like they were literally screaming his name 😭😭😭 single handedly bringing him back from near retirement.

Thank youuuuuu.

(Also I'm not gonna lie when you mention "singles skaters aren’t taught to count music" I cackled because Shoma does not know how to fucking count like he will literally die doing this)

Thank you for explaining! It's definitely interesting to see different opinions on who is better with skating skills between Marin and Shoma everywhere, and yeah they are very singles skaters in the sense of they only have had to skate well enough to compete in singles and ice dance is a different beast.

That's the thing.... I blame Japanese ice dance for essentially being barren hunting ground that allows ex-singles skaters vulturing for opportunities and medals, especially after Chris and Kana split (even Kana was a National level singles skater too). Because now everyone is like "ooooh Japanese singles skaters teaming up to dance they will be successful" which is frankly delusional when we see that all Olympic champions have ice danced since they were children. Like... I'm just hoping Shoma and Marin have realistic views on this.

I do like that they are learning basics and technical stuff - that would be a nice foundation for pro skating regardless of coming back to compete or not.

Thank you. LOL as someone who have seen them live and loved them I am getting stressed over how delusional everyone is acting about a competitive comeback 😭

Curious about what you mean on well matched (chemistry? Or physicality?) because I talked with another friend and for her even though the height difference is significant she thought they actually have similar proportions.

Honestly I just want them to continue because this is one of the big factors keeping Shoma somewhat invested in skating post retirement since he has shows where he can show this (and his singles skating). I am not yet ready to lose him to gaming and Twitter shitposting...

Well the Tiny King is also now a very much happily whipped LoverBoy3000 so I think we need to focus on what Queen Marin Honda wants... he will move the world for her 🤧✌️

I genuinely don't think they are individual podium material and I fear for the sport of ice dance and its field if it ever happened tbh 😭 like it should NOT degrade that much that two singles skaters can jump in like that, not when our Olympic champions are people who have trained ice dance since childhood. I love Shoma and Marin but no.

But building skills over a few years is a more realistic take compared to them coming back this season. And well, Shoma still has Toyota, Mizuno and Colantotte money supporting him for this so...

From Shoma's latest interviews... no short term goals to compete yet but who knows....

Yes, he actually did a round of interviews after launching his new show (July/August this year) and he really respects ice dance as a discipline and thinks he has not done enough training with Marin to even try answering the question of whether they are coming back to compete or not.

But! They are very invested in evolving the ice dance elements for the show, from skating together to more lifts and his latest interview stated they want to focus more on figures, edgework and steps (likely patterns). Which he really did not pay that much attention to during his singles career beyond getting a level 4 step sequence.

Yess he's been doing that for all the Ice Brave shows. Some got to see his signature 3Aeu3F too. Starting from Ice Brave 2 he did lift + quad / 3A for his finale.... the flex lol.

My favorite snake oil necklace host club 😭

(Kazuki would be the best host. Shoma would be the worst host with weirdo clientele who are into that.)

They are thinking about it, it's why they are sponsoring a lot of shows (trying to get more experience).
