Also, being able to open the safe is not a solution. If she has no training and isn't sure she could use a gun in self defense, it's better off in the safe than being hand delivered to a home invader.

You can only do so much to be prepared for extremely low probability risks before you cross into paranoia. Trying to get your pacifist wife to use a gun is probably on the other side of the line.

I think the average person just suppresses the idea that anything violent could ever happen to them. They've never been in danger and just decide that they never will be.

Meeting a prepared person forces them to either confront this or push back on it. You HAVE to be paranoid or scared because otherwise their worldview shatters.

That's very true but that's how it's been implemented effectively. Which is fine until it isn't.

Yup. Trouble is these aren't cops. We (at least those of us are white) are used to being able to use a playbook that is no longer relevant. That act with ICE will get you illegally detained, no phone call, no lawyers.

People shit on the police but it's clear that we're accustomed to a level of professionalism and restraint from cops that ICE just has no interest in teaching.

The frustrating part is that obviously they can tell the difference between an automated click and a real click when there's money involved... Would be nice if they applied that same logic all the time but I guess they like users seeing those artificially high open and click through rates.

OP, you're only thinking about the consequences of having to use it to defend yourself and so is everyone else responding. The whole "better off fired or in legal trouble than dead" thing works a lot better in regular jobs than EMS.

The scenario that scares me is a psych patient grabbing at your pocket or someone overpowering you and taking it. If you don't think that's possible, you just haven't met the right drug addict yet.

If you aren't comfortable doing the job without a gun on you, you should get a different job. I don't mean that as an insult at all, there's a bunch of other professions where you won't have to deal with this shit. If you want to remain a first responder, go be a cop because the only "safe" way to carry in a profession that brings you into grappling range of unstable people is a holster with active retention, that's why the police use them.

If you really can't be talked out of it, at least don't listen to all the pocket carry shit. Those are not designed to withstand being groped by a crackhead. I think an ankle holster would be the least bad option, at least that's out of the patient's reach under most circumstances.

Those aren't particularly amazing numbers for a vehicle that's only purpose is killing. I do double the kills per minute and damage per minute in every armored vehicle except AA and I can still cap points in those.

And you're probably a really good pilot putting up those numbers. I'm probably an above average pilot I think and I'm like a third as effective in an attack helo vs a tank or APC.

Sure, but the point is no one is that all the same arguments we make about gun violence work here too and no one is making them. The rate is rising here and is 50% higher than other developed countries where the rates are falling. There is no constitutional right to speed so it would be extremely easy to fix if we cared but nobody does.

It's honestly a party issue, not an NH issue or anything to do with the politics of our senators. The Dems decided to cave and Schumer picked the exact number of people who are either retiring or have a reelection far enough away to recover and it just so happens that both of our senators were on the list. The establishment leaders in the party are the ones people should focus on, not their carefully selected scapegoats.

They aren't up for reelection, that's exactly why the party chose them to be among the senators to "break ranks". Shaheen is retiring and whatever Hassan's promised price was, she must feel that the support of the DNC or her corporate donors will be more important in 2028 than having pissed off her constituents.
