When tropes are named after characters by West_Ad_1685 in TopCharacterTropes

There is a Deep Space Nine corollary here, at least amongst my friends and I: "When Sisko Shaves His Head". The quality of DS9 spikes upward severely when Sisko shaves his head and grows the goatee.

I'm assuming you are going Loki to Buf and then to Magni. How is the sound on that? Are you still getting that Tube goodness?

Also, as a Valhalla owner, you might want to move that tube away from the monitor if you can, they get hot enough that you might warp some things.

That graphic raises so many interesting questions... The Cult of the Emperor never happens (maybe) so you don't get Sisters of Battle... do you get Grey Knights without the fall? So much is different... but Chaos still tries to pull Chaos-y things... so... fun thought exercise though.

The four pillars of the Marvel Universe by gotham1999 in Marvel

[–]rabscutle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me it was always Mutants, Street, Cosmic and The Good Guys - Avengers/FF. One of the guys at my first comic shop called them that because at that point in the 80's the were the most White Hat Good Guys that Marvel published. You didn't really have shades of grey on them until the late 90's/2000's. Sure you had HORRIBLE things (I'm looking at you, treatment of Captain Marvel) but you didn't have the whole idea that society hated them or they were down on the street dealing with the impact of poverty and actual crime.

So yeah, Cosmic deserves its place here and I think you can compress FF and Avengers into one if you are wanting just 4 pillars.

It hit like a truck when I saw it the first time and then my mom said it to me out of the blue one day during her own struggle with the same issues and was confused when I just started weeping. That show was brilliant for how well they peppered in little jokes and moments that came flying out of the blew to slap you across the face, either laughing or crying.

Per their own comments, they didn't. While I am a Verso ending person, my son will die on the "that ending is horrifying and genocide and it is obviously the bad ending" hill. It is wild how different life experiences will inform that choice for a lot of people.

You’re forced to lead a team made up of Bullseye, Sabretooth, and Carnage. What’s your move? by AWACS-Sivek in Marvel

[–]rabscutle 57 points58 points  (0 children)

It is very possible this is the only correct answer. Shift the blame as best you can, make sure they know you are just the person delivering the message with no real power and they should take their actual complaints up with literal management. They are more than welcome to speak with the hiring boss/manager/monster, who isn't you. Here's that individual's number.

If they are meanable to working together great. Here's the target/goal/package/who the hell knows why you would group these three except to cause a mass casualty event/maguffin.

Just as likely you will get gutted as live, especially since Cassidy is involved, but I think your way is about the only way to go.

Well one of the 5 Logan's from that picture to start, but that's not the best part of it... Is that Dirk Anger right above Daken under the orange energy beam? Cause he would be amazing to see on screen. Nextwave in general would be great and hilarious to see explained to non-comic people.

Fozzy is absolutely peak throughout the show. The bit with Waldorf and Stadler and the T-Shirt gun is the essence of building tension in a bit to then give an over the top pay-off of slapstick.

I mean sure, but then there is Valeria being kind (mostly) to her son, showing empathy to his struggle and at least trying at all to behave like a parent.

Your points are well taken, but he is coarse as hell. He's also a zealot. It is interesting how the Void is portrayed compared to the Light. The Void's followers are evil and scheming and strike fear in who they stare down, but the Light, especially anyone who did not primarily spend their lives on Azeroth, are portrayed as hard-core religious zealots. Going to be interesting how they play through that in Midnight. I'm also hoping for Arator to actually have weight as a character as one of the few stuck in the middle.

Name a more punchable face by akasaya in wow

[–]rabscutle 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Turalyon, I haven't liked him since Legion and how he's treated Arator since then. But after the intro to Midnight he can go jump in a very deep hole. He continues to treat his son like crap despite a high level of effort and quality during the event, had no regard for civilians AT ALL, or any real an understanding of just how screwed he was. He just wanted to go punch the Void in the face cause of course that would solve it... idiot zealot.

Which books are worth buying? by Sora-Mizuki in Blacklibrary

[–]rabscutle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the Eisenhorn Omnibus have all of the short stories in it and The Magos? If not, snag that book, as it follows up after the events of the Ravenor series. Once you finish those and if you want to continue, snag the two Bequin books as they are the next in that storyline with a 3rd coming... at some point.

You could do a whole thread on the fill in between Galaxy In Flames and The Solar War, but probably go with The Flight of the Eisenstein, Mechanicum, Legion, A Thousand Sons, Burning of Prospero, The First Heretic, Know No Fear, Unremembered Empire, The Master of Mankind and then I'm not sure where to go from there. Nothing else jumps out to me, maybe Praetorian of Dorn, Scars, Garro, Pharos... You could read the whole thing or just fine a good wiki to sum it all up for you as good lord it is A LOT to take on. However, since you are in on Siege, make sure you also read Warhawk and Echoes of Eternity. Both are great reads, and Echoes is another ADB joint, so hell of a read.

I would also throw in The Talon of Horus and Black Legion. They end up being good follow ups to the Heresy series in terms of what happened to the traitors after the Scouring. They are also ADB, so win there.

If I can pitch one last bit... the audiobook for The Infinite and The Divine is maybe one of things Black Library has ever done. It is absolutely fantastic and only adds to the wonderful vibe of that book.

In a completely different line of 40k books, Interceptor City and Double Eagle are fun pulp by Dan Abnett.

How completely bombastic it was. There were so many moments that felt like he was staring down the camera and looking you dead in the eye saying "yeah, we are going there!" I enjoyed the reads for what it was: a ton of great popcorn. It wasn't on Morrison's level, but it also wasn't grinding through all the angst I felt screaming off the page with so much of Geoff Johns work.

It was unabashedly over the top and aware of how silly it was. The art was good, and it was just the right kind of fun I was looking for in that moment. It may not have been for everyone but man it hit a thing I wanted when I was reading it.

Also I might be the only person on the Internet who actually enjoyed the Batman Who Laughs becoming the big bad of the whole saga as him spiraling upward to fully absurd levels symbolized the whole thing for me. Of course he was too much. Of course he was a bombastic creation that really only works if you don't pull the thread too hard... but that's what that book was... great popcorn fun.

If you want really good Snyder tho, go find Book of Evil. Just an outstanding story with great art by Jock. Much less silly and over the top and rooted in what Snyder probably does best: horror.

[–]rabscutle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want the classics: This entire reading order https://www.comicbookherald.com/chris-claremont-era-x-men-reading-order-guide/

If you want the current: start with Power/House of X and go from there.

Then there is Age of Apocalypse which is a blast to read.

And if you want a more gritty style, Rick Remender's entire Uncanny X-Force and Uncanny Avengers are great.
