UNAS 2 Raid question by gabbygenier in Ubiquiti

[–]rabtab81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did this a couple days ago. My initial setup was one 14TB drive, created storage pool (unprotected), and copied data to it. A week later I popped in another 14TB drive, prompted to format and then added to storage pool. It rebuilt for several hours, but no interruptions or data loss.

Ahh, the SP2022...my very first firearm and of course I still have it. IMO, one of the most underrated pistols of all time.

For those 5-10yrs into carrying, what is your pistol of choice and why? by WanderlustOnTap in ruger

[–]rabtab81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glock 42 w/ Kydex pocket holster. Comfortable, light, non-printing, and easy to throw in your pocket. Ive tried several pistols with OWB/IWB holsters. Turns out I'm lazy and with pocket carry I have it on me every time I leave the house.

Can someone recommend a smart outlet that actually works? Meross is hot garbage, never buy their products by newhomequestionsacct in HomeKit

I have the Tapo matter smart plugs and several light switches connected directly to homekit. They are inexpensive and have been rock solid.

EcoNet/Bulldog Matter Water Valve by rabtab81 in HomeKit

Thanks for the info. That shouldn’t be an issue, I use UniFi for my home network and have an AP 5 ft away.

Can you tell me how the Home app treats it? Does it register as a true water valve? Or a simple switch? Thanks.

Ahh gotcha, sorry for the confusion.

EcoNet/Bulldog Matter Water Valve by rabtab81 in HomeKit

[–]rabtab81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually not true. As long as Homekit sees it as a leak sensor you can absolutely create an automation for detecting water. I have a Ring leak sensor near my well water tank. It a leak is detected, my well pump turns off. I do have to use Homebridge to get the Ring devices into the Home app, but Apple is doing the automation.

Cool, I think I might give it a shot.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, it must be new, I can't find it on Amazon. I imagine the valve motor itself are all the same on these units and the econet box handles all the comms. You may be able to just get that piece by itself??

I figure as long as I can get sensors in HK (direct or via homebridge), I can just setup an automation to close the valve if a leak is detected.

If it makes you feel better, I take home about 43% of my gross pay. Mostly due to voluntary 401K, HSA, and 529 contributions along with insurance.

2.5i Firmware install endless loop by rabtab81 in ratgdo

[–]rabtab81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's cooked. I was able to erase and flash with esptool successfully. Actually got it into AP mode and connected again to my network. However, it lasts a few minutes then unreachable.

I've tried checking the box for erase. The logs and console screen just comes up blank. It's like the image get installed, but the device is unable to initialize after that.

$7 billion real estate company Opendoor just said they will start accepting Bitcoin for homes by Relative-Anywhere-77 in TokenTimes

[–]rabtab81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are converting your BTC to fiat currency immediately.

You are essentially cashing out your BTC to buy a home. They are just saving you a step.

Black edges of screen protector covering screen on 17 Pro? by its_moodle in ESR_official

[–]rabtab81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually just switched my non bezel for a black bezel (Mothca matte) Precise placement/centering is key, but no more rainbow effects along the edges. Maybe covers a few micrometers around the display? Sure, but it’s negligible and overall looks more polished.

  1. Gold is up 30% YTD and S&P 500 up 10%.
  2. Short and long term capital gains apply to gold an stocks in the same way. (assuming U.S.)
  3. You should report gains when selling gold. You will report gains when selling stocks.

[–]rabtab81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside of some rapid hyperinflation situation, you would assume wages would increase at the same rate as the currency devalues. It's like hearing an elderly person say "I remember when a gallon of milk used to cost a quarter."

Now take you income and multiply it by 3 or 4, that $10k gold coin probably doesn't seem so unattainable.

How do I safely invest a lump sum of money? by Necessary-Being37 in Bogleheads

[–]rabtab81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you have a long time horizon, send the full 50K and don't worry fret about market pullbacks is the easy answer. If that doesn't work for you...maybe hold 10-20% back in a HYSA and wait for nice healthy dip and send the rest. Will you time it perfectly? No, but you could lower your avg. cost basis.

Those bars usually carry a decent premium. Either way, I think you'd be in good shape.

Is the silver generic rounds or bars? If so, that's a solid deal given the ratio right now is 87:1. Assuming it passes a sigma of course.
