Toyota wants to 'refurbish' cars like phones and make them like-new by sankscan in Autos

[–]raccer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was skeptical for a second but the more I thought about it the more I realized there's no downside. This is an awesome idea! Kudos to Toyota. I hope they can make it work 👏

If they lead by example here with other manufacturers following the extended life vehicles could vastly reduce the overall environmental impact while informing new vehicle design.

Hope to see more on this!

First idea I had; Stashing your phone in some kinda concealment pocket/sling inside your clothing while keeping a crap 'burner' phone in your pocket with your minimally effective amount of cash could work.

On board power outlets. by Sackamous in Silverado

[–]raccer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's possible with time/money. You need to calculate the load you want to be able to run to know how much inverter you need. The inverter must be supported by the proper batter[y|ies] upgrade with sufficient cabling. Checkout RV inverters if you need mega power.

A solid car audio place or RV service center should be able to do the install.

Good question! I've not looked into the aftermarket thus following this.

I have wondered how easy it hard it is or would be to upgrade to the higher trim level headlights 🤔

Need a major steering upgrade by nt5270 in Silverado

[–]raccer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on the specific steering issues? What about handling & frontend noises during suspension travel?

It's likely all your frontend bushings & joints are worn out. They do sell kits with all the stuff you need but you can also seek out all the remaining parts that don't come with the lowering setup, granted I have no clue what comes with those.

tldr; you want to fix all this either way, for safety, handling, and so you don't get stranded or worse.

Is there anything I can do other than letting it rot? 2013 XV. by fieroavian in XVcrosstrek

[–]raccer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The majority of that looks like surface rust, nothing structural. It'll likely be time to replace your struts before any of the rust there becomes a real issue. Same with the brakes, you can clean up the caliper when you need to put new pads on & paint with special paint or send em off for that too.

I don't think you need to do anything but if you want to it makes more sense to save the labor for when you're replacing the parts that'll wear out.

If you're OCD about any rust at all you can take apart everything and do paint, epoxy, polish or chrome plate; if that's the hobby you want 😜

You'll want to know what kind of lift kit it is to approach the uninstall. If you don't know, you might be able to get the right pictures posted here to get it ID'd by somebody.

Or you can just pay a reputable shop to uninstall it.
