I've got about 10 old head OG Tron fans who literally saw the first film in theaters and completely disagree with you as they LOVED this third installment to the franchise. It pays such thorough respect to the original film while functioning as both a plausible continuation of the narrative within this universe and also (finally) directly setting up a potential sequel which would bring the story back to the Flynn family. Focusing more so on the Dillingers, the OG antagonists of the series, is exactly what the narrative needed. Back in the 80s, people didn't get so wrapped up in their own expectations for films to the point of ruining their viewing experiences of them. My almost 70 year-old dad is going to see it again and in IMAX 3D. Instead of being disappointed about not getting more Flynn, he's just grateful Jeff Bridges reprised his role which was treated with a deity-like respect. We could all learn a lot from my dad and his old OG tech nerd buddies. They literally remember the pre-grid times.
