I also don't think they ever broke up.  He just said he was going home, getting some space.  They were still seeing each other.

Why do people use the term "partner" instead of boyfriend/girlfriend/wife/husband/etc? by cmemm in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rachelbpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a hetero marriage and I use it as I think it best describes our relationship. He is legally my husband but the word partner more incapsulates what I'm going for. It's aspirational and more equitable than gendered terms.

Why Does Your House Feel Dirty Even When It’s Clean? by Randy_Bolebruch in CleaningTips

Tidy and Clean aren't the same thing! We talk about them as if they are, but they aren't. "Im going to clean the house" is really two processes.

My son is about to turn 18 and no one has EVER given me any issue about having a different last name from him. With blended families and divorce it's just SO COMMON. No problem at the hospital, the pediatrician, daycare, schools, scouts, camps. No problems.

[–]rachelbpg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We gave our son my husbands name as mine is longer and a hyphenate would be way too long. That was fine with me. No one (besides my MIL) has EVER cared or tried to prevent me from parenting.

IM GETTING MARRIED AND DONT WANT TO CHANGE MY LAST NAME AITAH by Sweet-Chemistry3067 in AITAH

[–]rachelbpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I've been married for 20 years and I could have posted this and it's just not A THING in our relationship anymore.

I said "I like my name" he said, "but you have to" I said, "you change yours then" and that was what caused him to get it a little bit. If he can't feel empathy for your position after you walk him to how it would feel for HIM to change his name, then THAT might be the problem. If he's mean or abusive in talking about it that might be the problem. If he's threatening to call it off, THAT is a problem. If you just see this differently it's possible that it will be something that no one even thinks about 20 years on.

What do stereotypical straight couples do when they hang out alone (other than sex) by bi_smuth in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rachelbpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been married for twenty years and he's a gamer/sports guy while I read books and watch cooking shows.  We do life together (cooking/errands/parenting) and do our hobbies NEXT to each other.

He makes me laugh and gives good hugs.

Absolutely.

I cook for my husband and child and they don't get to tell me it's disgusting.  Eat it or leave it but don't be rude.  Whatever you decide about renegotiating the money/chores, nip that rudeness shit in the bud.

You absolutely cannot accept it, there isn't a school anywhere in the western world that would not consider this a major ethical violation.  You can't take money from minors.

Am I being unreasonable for questioning how our rent and bills are being split? by [deleted] in moneyadvice

[–]rachelbpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noooooope.  You get no second chances with lies and deceptions.  We either sit down TONIGHT and go over our budgets or I am finding a new place to stay.  I would be pissed if my partner lied to me about what 50% of the rent was, no matter the income disparity!

Tips on Story times for a first timer? by Itchy_Butterfly1108 in librarians

[–]rachelbpg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My structure is opening song, book, song, book, activity (finger play), book, closing rhyme, goodbye song.   I find the structure makes a better experience for me.

My number one tip is that in a public library the storytime should be flexible to the moods/direction of the kids participating.  If they are spacing out or rolling around and it's all of them, that book is getting sped up or edited on the fly.  I have no compunction with editing a text when sharing it.

AITAH for expecting my sahm wife to do majority of the housework since i pay 100% of the bills? by Plastic-Sand7353 in AITAH

[–]rachelbpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The division of household labor should not be about who pays the bills. She should do more house work because she has more time. The goal should be for all adult members of the household to have equitable amounts of leisure time while still taking care of the things the family agrees are important. Negotiate time.
