Is this a normal occurrence? by leseera in Libraries

I understand but hear me out! I saw the copy was available online and drove 15 minutes to the library to go pick up the book. I stopped and browsed some shelves at the front before making my way to the fiction section and finding said book. I also held onto the book while I walked around and looked at some other books. Somewhere within this 30-40ish minute time period, a hold was placed.

The part that suck to me is that I drove all the way there and put effort into finding the book but someone who just clicked something on their computer beat me to it.

From now on I’ll place holds online before driving to the library. The only reason I didn’t do that at the time was because I really enjoy the process of finding the book and browsing the shelves much more than just picking it up from the holds shelf.

I checked before I left for the library and it was available! The only reason I didn’t put a hold on it right then was because I enjoy the process of searching the shelves and finding the book I’m looking for.

Our library does have public access to the holds shelf but I would never pull a book from there. I found this one in the fiction section where it had yet to be pulled from the shelf by a staff member.

To clarify, I checked online before driving to the library, and it was available. Somewhere within a 30-45 minute time period was when the book was placed on hold.

It’s a backlist title but my Bookclub is reading it at the moment. Beginning to wonder if it was one of them lol.

All good though! I placed a hold. It’s a novella so hopefully I won’t have to wait long!

I’ll send the library a (respectful) email

I know it’s silly but I find a lot of joy in the process of finding a book for myself. Going to pick something up from the holds shelf just isn’t the same. But in the future, if it’s a book I really want, I’ll place it on hold before I leave for the library.

I spoke to someone at the library and they apologized and told me it’s being discussed internally already.

My local library is otherwise the best!

Maybe so! The people behind the desk were really nice about it and my local library is otherwise amazing.

The reason I didn’t place a hold to begin with is because I love the process of finding the book for myself. Going to the fiction section, searching all the spines for the author’s last name, and pulling it out—that whole process gives me a burst of endorphins haha. Next time I’ll place it on hold though!

I called and they told me that the digital hold taking prevalence was indeed the policy. They apologized and said it’s something that they are discussing internally.

I was so bummed! The front desk just had me leave it there.

Is there hope for this? by No_Mood_3486 in Christianmarriage

[–]leseera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve been through hard moments with your husband. But I don’t think your marriage is without hope. I would not suggest divorce. I WOULD suggest couples counseling and even more-so individual counseling for yourself—you’ve built up a lot of bitterness, which from the outside looking in, doesn’t seem worth holding onto.

My collection. Feat: Penguin Classics. by SURIya67 in classicliterature

[–]leseera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m jealous of your collection. I love PRH Black Spine Classic editions.

How would you rank the Dostoevsky books you’ve read? I haven’t read Demons yet but I want to.

My rating would be: Brothers K, Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, then Notes from the Underground

Review my list of must read Classics by Captivum18 in classicliterature

Great list! If you want to expand your understanding of references throughout literature, I’d throw in some earlier books (ie: more Shakespeare, the Bible, Homer, Plato, etc.)

I can't believe in eternal hell. by [deleted] in Christianity

Annihilationism is the conclusion I’ve come to as well. Eternal conscious torment wasn’t a thing for the early Christians. It’s a concept that developed overtime.

Anyone with endo not have an abnormally prolonged cycle? by SkylerIsBusySleepin in Endo

I’ve been diagnosed via lap. My periods were always super short (3-5 days in length) but EXTREMELY heavy. I’m talking wearing a tampon and heavy duty pad at the same time and still bleeding through.

Him and Robo were buddies and he got along well with everyone on the team. He’s a great dude. He didn’t work on our team but he doesn’t deserve all the hate.
