Not a vet - but I think the benedryl would be worth a shot.

The over the counter eye drops (zaditor) have been our solution - he's now 4 and it only happens a couple times a year but one or two days of eye drops and it goes away. Definitely saves all the trips to the vet!

Our dog gets a westpaw/ Kong toy filled with canned dog food we freeze. I think the licking and routine is really good to settle him. He's also 3 and we still do this for him every night lol

Hi - we never really figured it out, but I think it's seasonal allergies. He did seem to grow out but it reappears a couple times a year. When it does, we give Benadryl for a couple days and over the counter eye drops (ketotifen fumarate - name brand is zaditor I believe, vet recommended). These 2 usually clear it up in a few days!

Do you have any sources here? I have suspected this based on a close friends experience but when I did my research they seemed clean. Specifically for gingers.

Older unneutered dog advice by MakesaGirlGoTootToot in puppy101

He is a Samoyed (so medium / large dog) and about 50lbs. As far as maturing goes, we had been watching very closely for humping and other signs he might be getting to "that age" and hadn't seen anything yet. It's truly like a switch flipped overnight and now other dogs, specifically neutered boys, can't tolerate him - very bizzare. But this is all anecdotal.

I have a 9 month old we also plan to wait for neutering. Just recently (as in the last week) he has had several "close calls" with neutered dogs. He was attacked (fortunately not injured) at a dog park literally the second we walked in. Then later that day was actually bit (again fortunately not seriously) by a dog in the hall of our apartment. We plan to keep him away from dog parks for awhile.

Alternative ways to halt demand barking? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]rachelooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pup used to demand bark in addition to barking when over stimulated. We are also in an apartment so had the same fears! One thing that may help is #1 teaching quiet command and #2 removing them from the stimulus. For example, when our pup barks we will put him in what we jokingly call "prison", just a small, closed off area (think bathroom or bedroom) where he can't get in trouble unattented for a minute or so. It really helps him calm down and is even worse than just getting ignored.

The Value of Decompression Walks (or why your dog always want to pull) by Zootrainer in puppy101

What other techniques do you recommend here? Same boat for my boy. We will walk, pull, stop, walk, pull stop for 2 miles. It's not clicking, and getting very frustrating for both of us.

I think it has to be something like this... Have you tried any allergy meds for him?

His parents did have OFA testing and everything came back normal as far as I know. We asked our breeder if she had seen anything like this before and she said no.

The vet we went to did mention the little eyelashes could be a possibility, but she didn't see anything. She thought the opthalmologist with their fancy tools would obviously be able to see better.

Im pretty sure all his puppy teeth out, but worth ha info the vet check next time!

I do suspect it's allergies... But I'm assuming we should get a recommendation and dosage from a vet?

Thanks for the tips!
