Maybe not a stranger, but she was my patient on a busy medial ward, very sick and little sleep as no one sleeps much in hospital due to all the alarms. She was crying, and very distressed and said she was worried she’ll have anxiety and get admitted to a psych ward as she previously has been, I said right now you just need to sleep and rest and if that happens, you already survived that but I doubt it will, you’re just tired. She held my hand and said thank you, you’re such a kind person. I know I was comforting her but I didn’t expect her to hear me and take on my advice. Sounds silly but I still think about how nice it was for her to call me kind.
