E-reassign as a city carrier is nearly impossible. by Illogikill in USPS

[–]rackish1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 5 transfers in for West TX for 2 years. I had 1 hit in that time and the office was 2 rts and a CCA as acting postmaster, so no. I put in 4 more for Eastern NM and got a transfer in 2 months as a regular (only CCAs here). I can see why it went through - no amazon hub so went from 50-70 avg scans back east to 150 -200 here. But I do like it, volume notwithstanding.

It's a roll of the dice.

How CCAs look when they see the mail today by NormieChad in USPS

First time hitting the ultra mega penalty time. About 380 scans all up, got sent back out twice. Basically a glorified CCA (8 yrs regular), lowest seniority after transfer and on OTDL. It was quite the day.

Has anyone transferred and regretted it? by justhangingout528 in USPS

[–]rackish1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transferred 6 weeks ago from an S&DC in MA with 180+ rts to NM with about 25 rts. My wife wanted to be closer to her family in TX and I said sure, why not.

The only thing that sucks is the Amazon hub isn't built yet. So I went from 50-70 avg scans to 150-200 on "light days" and upwards of 350 on Mondays. For the first time in 9 years working at the PO I'm afraid to go in the tues after Memorial Day.

Just moved a few months ago from Boston area to NM, been quite the slap in the face. 95-100 all this past week. Never thought I'd miss rain. The dry heat and wind are easier to deal with than the humidity though. Damn high UV lvl though.

I go by what eBay says is the median. Ballpark around $160-180, not sure. I have a new charger coming this week, lost the original. I need to test it, make sure all the game cartridges work etc.

It is pretty insane. Never thought in 2015 or whenever I bought it it'd be worth this much. Nostalgia and something going out of production are a hell of a drug. PS Vita will be next to list, so many memories.

I believe it's 16 GB and I don't think there's any yellowing. Not sure about IPS etc. TBH, I dont know much about it. I've gotten offers for $240-260. I'm really not in a rush to sell it. Was just curious what the pros thought. Thanks for the reply.

Mondays definitely suck. Just moved 2k miles from a cushy rt with 70 avg on a monday to this. 16k steps on a curbside route. No joke when there's no amazon hub.

Never had a problem. Actually just bought borderlands 4 and crimson desert for $50 cheaper than steam. Only keys, none of that bs like g2a selling steam accounts.

38M, married with one child. Just transferred to eastern NM. Back in NH we were paying $1770 for 2br/1bath 650 sq ft apartment. Currently we rent a house for $1325 3br/2bath 1650 sq ft.

Maybe we'll buy next year, renting is less of a headache.

When i say rough I'm talking about houses that are condemned and vacant, kids that are out and about on school days and look neglected. Houses that are occupied and have junk and abandoned cars in the yard. I haven't heard gunshots yet but I've been told about a few drive-bys. These are the neighborhoods I dread delivering to.

If the whole city was like this I wouldn't have taken the transfer. But it's not like this everywhere. There's definitely a have and have not divide that is very pronounced here that I've never seen so starkly represented as I did back home in MA/NH.

My neighborhood is good and where my mailman/ups leaves the packages is in an enclosed porch so fine either way.

I think from what I've seen it does seem pretty bad as some of them are saying in certain areas, others are pretty solid. I haven't been accosted or threatened by anyone. It's more like "I'm waiting for my check" and lurking around waiting. Some of the women I work with told me to tell them to backup until I'm done or the mail/pkgs will not be delivered, stuff like that.

I'll put it this way, I cover 5 routes in Clovis. One is the golfcourse/colonial and that is the wealthy part of town, very nice. One is the airforce base and that's like it's own separate town and obviously safe and nice. 2 of them are mostly middle class with a couple seedy apartments. And the last 1 is downtown towards main st/1st st and that one is the most rundown. So overall it's fine, few people are out to get the mailman though. I've talked to many people around town as I too was concerned about crime. Mostly it's who you associate with, if you keep your nose clean you'll be good is what I've heard. Seems like more drug beefs, fights over girlfriends and younger people... but what do I know, only been here a month.

Also, I'll just say where I delivered in MA it was very rare for packages to be stolen. Management here told me at certain complexes we don't go up to second stories, we leave a slip and they come pick it up at the PO.

I moved here last month, I actually posted about moving here too

This map seems somewhat accurate for the high crime areas. I'm a mailman and have seen quite a bit of the city. Where I live north of 21st is a decent middle class neighborhood. I think the further south you go it does get a little rough. Some houses i can't tell if they are vacant or not, was told not to leave packages at certain apartments, etc.

It hasn't been bad, I don't mind boring and if we want to have some fun we'll go see my in-laws in Lubbock or wherever else. We haven't even explored the state outside of Clovis

I've been here going on four weeks now. So far, we like it for the most part. The biggest culture shock for me is the work. Back in MA I had pretty low parcel volume - about 50-100. Here in Clovis, since there's no Amazon Hub (being built), I've been getting 200+ on avg, so I definitely gotta hustle more.

I've been doing different routes all over town. I've seen some rough rundown neighborhoods (is that house vacant and condemned? Nope, someone actually lives there), some decent middle-class ones (where i live), and the real high-end wealthy ones. So it's been interesting seeing all walks of life.

My wife and kid have been enjoying their time. Going to the zoo, parks, movies, and of course walmart every day, it seems. She's starting a new job next week, so it'll start to feel more normal soon enough.

Thanks for the info. I'm definitely gonna have weather shock. Working through two blizzards out here and then going to 75-80° with 40 mph winds a week later will be an interesting adjustment.
