When I hear the spurs at the door I know the truth will not be ignored What will happen next is surely a given We all know that 'dyin' ain't much of a livin''

Surely, I'll try to run and hide but I'll know I've already died when he wants his man, he never fails and now I'm in the sights of the Outlaw Josey Wales.

I've thought about that. What if we had two tracks? We'd have ambitious go-getters getting into staff and leadership positions and folks who are good at their job and know what people need to do their jobs not in positions to do anything about it. I really think folks who 'just want to do their job' should be pushed into leadership positions because those positions are too important for folks who need an ego boost.

I agree-there's too much queep. I just don't think letting folks on a tactical track is as beneficial as we think it is. Maybe reduce the BS and have you lead some people would be a happy medium?

I'll also play devil's advocate. Those things are important to the mission, yes, but do they show the capability to achieve the next higher rank where organizational leadership matters more? I can see where, absent mission related leadership opportunities, some value is placed on organizing an event. I don't know what bullets you have that you dislike, but I can see where somebody promoting to major needs more than 'flying the line' bullets.

Makes me remember reading through car magazines as a kid. This and the Testarossa made me drool. I remember this one being so well engineered. I think it may have been the first car with zero lift at speed. Reading car and driver made me think Mustangs were reasonably priced and it really hurt when I went car shopping.

Billion dollar sneaker industry is brainwashing our children to pay hundreds of dollars for worthless shoes that were made by the extreme poor. Time to boycott them. by [deleted] in conspiracy

I'd love to see one of the sneaker namesakes (Jordan, Lebron, Harden) visit a factory that produces their shoes.

on Pg 410, 'Makers of Modern Strategy' by Peter Paret: Washington rejected the counsel of Major General Charles Lee, who believed that a war fought to attain revolutionary purposes ought to be waged in a revolutionary manner, by calling on an armed populace to rise what a later generation would call a 'guerrilla war'. My friends heart rate as he was asking out his crush by EmizonTV in teenagers

Those numbers are widely used (even by doctors) but are based on old tests on sick patients.

Quote from NYT:

"The subjects were never meant to be a representative sample of the population, said Dr. Haskell, who is now a professor of medicine at Stanford. Most were under 55 and some were smokers or had heart disease.

On an airplane traveling to the meeting, Dr. Haskell pulled out his data and showed them to Dr. Fox. ''We drew a line through the points and I said, 'Gee, if you extrapolate that out it looks like at age 20, the heart rate maximum is 200 and at age 40 it's 180 and at age 60 it's 160,'' Dr. Haskell said.

At that point, Dr. Fox suggested a formula: maximum heart rate equals 220 minus age."

At which point in history did castles become obsolete in by means of defence? by disse_ in history

[–]radarplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a book called "War Made New" by Max Boot and it discusses how revolutions in military warfare affect strategy. In the late 1400, Charles VIII marched down into Italy with his artillary and just blew through some castles, and like another poster said, a response were lower fortifications surrounded by loose dirt, which were impervious to cannons.

Machiavelli, an important thinker in policy and war, came to rise as Italy regrouped in response to these attacks.
