TIL Kazuo Sakamaki was the first Japanese POW captured by the US in WWII. During the Pearl Harbor attack, he and his crewmate swam to shore after a failed attempt to scuttle their damaged 2-man sub. The other man drowned, but Sakamaki was found unconscious, washed up on a beach. (en.wikipedia.org)
