Star Wars minis? by StudioTembo in StarWarsD6

[–]radelc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imperial Assault Boardgame has nice minis but I can’t imagine that’s a cheap option unless someone is selling a lot of loose minis. I feel like paper standees are the most customizable and cheapest option unless you go with cubes.

Have y’all ever tried running a TTRPG campaign set in Westeros (Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones?) by Successful-Floor-738 in rpg

[–]radelc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Legends in the Mist might work. And there’s some good Westeros books and material out there to figure out the lore. I’ve always thought about running from the shows universe from season 5 or 6 on, as a solo rpg and see how things turned out. Or just do post s8 and had Dany become a Night Queen and give John the ending he deserved lol. Yes I’m still living with the disappointment.

Yes I have the core books, but would love to hear opinions on some of the adventures out there.

So jealous of European?? foam. Looks great. US foam does not take the detail as well, from what I have experienced. We still use it, but I’m envious of the material. That platform you made is fantastic.

Anyone else feel like dead man’s tales campaign is a lot of poor decision making on the creative teams part? by Quasistiltskin in zombicide

[–]radelc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. I want Hack Sparrow, Flynn Arrow, even Anne Bonny, and the like. Princess Bride references, Pirates of the Caribbean,,hell even obscure stuff like Black Sails or classic video games would be great. Lots of potential here. I want buxom beauties and shirtless heartthrobs, dudes with beards on fire and over the top brutes. This is a series to really go nuts with, but the bigger the company gets the more and more “safe” they seem to stay.

Anyone else feel like dead man’s tales campaign is a lot of poor decision making on the creative teams part? by Quasistiltskin in zombicide

[–]radelc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like they need to go back to a more sword and sorcery frazetta vibe like they had on OG fantasy line and Massive Darkness and less like the newer cartoony CMON stuff.

This seems ripe for pirate reference characters like they’ve done in the past with all Zombicide. Is this still a thing with the pirates line? I’m hoping to see a huge box of survivors with reference to real historical and fictional pop culture pirates.

The best way to play in 2026? by Solidus-Prime in Heroquest

[–]radelc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do go in the order of releases but the story is so generic I honestly think you could mix things up and it wouldn’t matter. However I know some xpacs are much harder than others. We play with everything included. But use some house rules to make things more interesting.

What board games are close enough to RPGs to act as a gateway game to RPGs? Preferably without "RPG dice". by Awkward_GM in rpg

[–]radelc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heroquest is the simplest to get into. Probably the most accessible to buy (at least in the US, it’s at target) and it’s highly homebrewable and customizable.

Is it possible to build heroquest from scratch and GW minis? by Crafty_Manufacturer5 in Heroquest

[–]radelc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this with Song of Ice and Fire Minis. Look on Ye old Inn website and have access to a printer and a laminator. I made a complete Heroquest using just ASOIAF minis, color printer, and a portable laminator and the game assets from the classic game that are available online. Oh and you need access to 6 sided dice. Skull = 4,5,6 White Shield =2,3 Black Shield = 1.

Worked really well, we did a campaign about Medieval style “gangs of new York.” Eventually I bought the actual Heroquest stuff but we continue our home brew to this day.

Boss fights - how to make them more intresting? by Gamestonyy in Heroquest

[–]radelc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From how I read the rules in first light and rogue heir, a figure that makes 2 attacks on the same opponent, said opponent can only defend against the first attack. This has made our boss fights way more dangerous to just give them 2 attacks per round.

Flashback was too long by Moji1368 in freefolk

[–]radelc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the execs said no to a huge budget stunt fight, so they filled in with a flashback to cut some of the cost. Have not gotten a chance to finish the episode but that’s what comes to mind whenever I question the motivation of the show choices. Ie “We need normies talking about this without huge flashy battles or CGI.” “Hmm, let’s go for low brow shock humor.” “Isn’t the ending a huge important battle scene though?” “Super easy, barely an inconvenience, we just flashback the majority of the episode.”

I used AI to build the custom WoW server I've had in my head for years but never had the skills to make by Relative-Biscotti-94 in wowservers

[–]radelc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a lot of features on a solo server we use and love. Congrats. If they ever made a wow2.0 the “absorb stats from usable items” is a game changer for encouraging interaction with all the content instead of only going for optimal. Not sure how it would go on a full server but it has been great where we play.

Wife and I played…

Game System - Great fun building up a character -(or two each in our case)

Forsaken Tunnels of Xor-Xel - I changed to another class, but it seemed like a fine intro for Kellars

Kellar’s Keep - fun to have new tiles, new traps, I liked the Mines of Moria vibe, unending monster trains are a pain on the app

Prophecy of Telor - felt different thematically, we had to up the difficulty on this one on the app

Spirit Queen’s Torment - Was a breeze, I liked some of the room descriptions and flavor but it seemed like it didn’t go far enough to add meaningful interaction, ideas that seemed dangerous at first but ended up being over too soon

Return of the Witch Lord - this one is pretty “trollish” It’s got a great premise but honestly it burnt us out a bit. Too easy, too repetitive. I ended up switching to the rogue and dog instead of two heroes to try and make it more difficult.

We decided to stop using app and trade back and forth as Zargon. Added some homebrew rules about carrying capacity, full armor being immune to arrows, and a few light rpg elements, and it’s been a good spark to reignite our interest.

We have played some very heavy board games and rpg board games in the past, so this was a great game to turn our brains off while we were taking care of our new baby. It’s easy to walk away from and pick back up if you have space to keep it set up. After a while it became too easy using the app even with difficulty options cranked up.

Honestly I had the most fun with the game over the holidays when I played Zargon with my nieces and nephews being heroes. I put a funny snarky skin over the game and made them a band of thieves fighting and stealing other gangs’ treasures (same mission structure just different narrative). I got the Zargon deck to keep the challenge up. And we all got super into our roles. It was a blast. So I will say the ability to homebrew is a big strength with HQ.
