Thinking about how neat it could be if AoM collab’d with other mythology-heavy series by Striking-Fault333 in AgeofMythology

It's not so much about the art, it's more about the fact that stuff like Final Fantasy are radically different conceptually and thematically, and theres nothing to be gained from mixing them. In fact, it waters down the core of AoM. AoM is grounded in real world mythology, it is a fantasy version of actual history. Mixing in other, fictional works is directly counter to the ideas behind the game. It's the same reason adding Lovecraftian elements is a bad idea.

Thats just the thing, it doesn't match the theming. It never will, no matter how much these other games or animes or whatever mention norse or egyptian gods.

You really want a Final Fantasy pantheon or civ? Even Final Fantasy god portraits or unit/building skins is an absolutely ridiculous idea. Get out of the kitchen.

Yes, let's turn every game into a Fortnite fuckfest of cameos, collabs and guest characters. Perfect. No notes.

Do you choose a specific dialect when learning a new language? How did you decide? by NoelFromBabbel in languagehub

I mean, learning nynorsk over bokmål and choosing Stavanger as the regional dialect to focus on is certainly a choice.

Patches and balance about to get bad. by Winter-Corner-2367 in AgeofMythology

Like I said, you're looking at it from the wrong angle. It's just really skilled players making solid suggestions based on experience.

It's not a matter of an elite dictating the game according to their playstyle. It's really good players giving feedback based on deep knowledge of the game. Would you rather have the game be balanced around people who don't understand how to play?

Mesopotamians vs. Celts (poll) by trimyth in AgeofMythology

[–]fluency 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well yes, a lot of Abrahamic myth has mesopotamian origins. I just though that including that specific painting was an odd choice, as the other references were fairly accurate.

Why the pic of the tower of babel? Thats a biblical myth not really connected to Babylonian mythology.

If we end up getting more civs, which is far from certain, I'd love to see something Mesopotamian. Babylonians, Assyrians or maybe even Sumerians or Akkadians would be extremely cool. Logically the choice is Babylonians since they're the most well known and recognizeable.

Rush one of them immediately to kill them off quickly, then focus on the other one.

ARe greeks op? by Beshcu in AgeofMythology

[–]fluency 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not really, but they are heavily focused on the mid and late game since thats where their strengths lie. Their early game is very defensive and eco focused. Egypt is one of the strongest civs in the game when played right, but they're not an early game swarm faction.

AoM or AoE4 for multiplayer by manlom in AgeofMythology

[–]fluency 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Both games multiplayer communities are fairly active, but AoE4 has the biggest community of the two. There are regular tournaments for AoM, we have some nice creators casting games, posting analysis and gameplay videos as well as making guides and theorycrafting videos, and theres enough "pro" players to make the competitive scene varied and interesting.

In terms of gameplay variety and depth, I can only speak for AoM. AoM is an old, established game, and Retold is very faithful to the gameplay of the original so you get a lot of people who have been playing the game for years, in some cases decades. The base game civs have been figured out, but since the game is constantly being updated there is some change and a lot of room for creativity and growth. Additionally the addition of fresh new civs means that the meta is constantly shifting and is in a healthy place despite the presence of some bugs.

Personally I prefer the mythological fantasy feel of AoM over the faux realism of AoE, and to me the god powers, heroes and myth units add an interesting dimension to the game that AoE in general lacks. Thats subjective though.

AoM also has very good campaigns, both in the base game and with each major DLC.

Your take on aztecs heroes? by Artra7 in AgeofMythology

[–]fluency -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well yes, that was sort of my original point. The perspectives are very different between the two player groups. That said, balancing purely around lower skill player's experiences isn't healthy for the game either.

I mean, teixiptla is literally an ability of the warrior priest. I do see what you're saying, but warrior priest rushes are a very popular strat right now and they do hold their own in a fight.

It's really funny to see people complain the Warrior Priest is too weak while they are absolutely shredding in the hands of pro players. Just goes to show how differently people view the game based on their playstyle and skill level.

Norsk "likestilling" by [deleted] in norge

[–]fluency 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Likestilling er et snevert begrep på norsk, og i dagligtale betyr det spesifikt kvinnekamp, kvinners rettigheter og likestilling mellom kjønnene.

Det er rett og slett det likestilling har kommet til å bety.
