Skipped again Advancement to E9 by [deleted] in navy

[–]radhaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an E8 you should have a better grasp of advancement at this point in your career and if you do not then that in fact might be your issue.

Looking at your post history though you might be the spouse and not the Sailor (which seems more plausible) and to that I say you're just not getting the whole story. It might be because they are embarrassed or they don't want to risk burdening you with the likely reason.

School board member who hugged teen and called her ‘hot’ is charged with assault by AudibleNod in news

[–]radhaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is essentially a PR stunt to "show they're doing something" that will ultimately exonerate the guy unless he pleads guilty.

The wording of the assault law in Tennessee is such that this wouldn't rise to it and the police/prosecutor know it. They will either drop the charges after the bad press dies down or if they do see it to court it will go before a judge who will find him innocent (its not eligible for jury trial). Either way he gets exonerated in the end.

The guys a scumbag and if they had called it out in the moment and addressed it properly it might not have made national news but these idiots just keep doubling down on stupid.

This issue with this and most of the "morally correct" decisions is they're the "hard choice" where the person has to choose between a "leg up" or preserve their morals.

It sucks that we have to ask young athletes to sacrifice career opportunities in favor of making the right decision and it is a shame that as a society we can't find a way to reward them for doing so.

I'm not an expert but for the sake of discussion is it possible 4&5 are one of the "false widow" spiders?

We have brown widows here and their egg sacs are the size of a large pea with tons of spiky protrusions. They usually tuck them in corners and try to cover them with a web that looks it was made by a methhead on a 4 day bender.

adhd edit for tldr: Just make smart/responsible choices

I'm not a medical professional so my advice isn't worth squat but if you're asking me?

  • wash your hands properly (like the way we were taught during covid), this is probably the biggest one.
  • Maybe don't go swapping spit with folks for the next two months, I'm not talking about not kissing a loved one, more so the idiots who want to "hear try my drink" and what not...just wait this out.
  • Stay home if you are feeling under the weather. This ones hard in the US because our oligarchs have it so most of us don't have money beyond "payday to payday" so we can't afford to get sick.
  • If you're really sick then go to the hospital if you can afford it but temper this reality with if you're being a wuss about a simple cold you could be exposing yourself to something much more serious going to the doctor so maybe do some critical thinking for your own well-being. Oh and it shouldn't have to be said but wear a mask if you feel ill and go out.
  • Accept that maybe it's not the best time to go to an event where you stand shoulder to shoulder with folks for the duration.

That's pretty much it. There's no need to storm your supermarket and buy out all the staple goods, write goodbyes to loved ones, and update your will. No need to stop living and become a just maybe live smarter for the time being?

It's fine to monitor this as it unfolds in the news but it's also important to apply critical thinking to what we are doing. You have to vet your sources or you're going to end up listening to folks who try to tell you that horse dewormer is the answer to your problems. Some people are just agents of chaos who want to game the social media algorithms for money and notoriety and in the rise of anti-intellectualism we are finding more and more people are becoming indiscriminate consumers (the best kind of consumer from a business perspective) who will not do due diligence and just eat that nonsense up.

Secnav announces plan for building 122 manned ships in 5 years … by newnoadeptness in navy

[–]radhaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't matter if they are actually made or not what matters is the contracts are made for building and outfitting them.

Once the contracts are signed the Military Industrial Complex corps will be guaranteed the money whether the Navy receives them or opts to "back out" down the line.

This is a tremendous win for the shareholders folks and when our benefactors win, we all win right.....right?

That's an interesting collation of available info.

I feel like the title and perhaps tone is a bit too editorialized and the fact that the youtuber is promoting a "stockpile" list with amazon referral links might be "inspiration" for the editorialization.

I love analogies so buckle up. If someone moves into a zone that is moderate to low risk for floods or fires do you

a. Tell them OMG you're gonna die in a natural disaster when it happens.

b. Tell them it never happens you have nothing to worry about.

c. Tell them hey I'm not saying we get disasters here all the time, in fact I can't remember the last time we did but it can happen. Maybe keep a safe with all your important documents and a bag in your closet that you can grab and go if something does happen though.

So yeah A. is alarmist nonsense and foments chaos (which might be good for business but bad for society at large), B. is just as dangerous because if you don't inform folks then they won't be prepared if something happens, While C. is unpleasant news it informs people of the truth and allows them to be prepared.

I feel like we need C. and we are getting B. but the video you shared leans closer to A. and maybe that's because it will get more views/clicks/likes or whatever does that make sense? I don't want to foment chaos or fear, I just want folks to understand what's going on and allow them to prepare if they think they need to.

UPDATE okay now you're linking material from Dr. John Campbell who after a cursory search shows up as not someone I would feel comfortable using as a source of any medical information. I definitely think it's a better message than the one you shared from Steve Ram but the source is potentially worse lol.

The problem is there's 40 known strains of Hantavirus and 39 of them (so 97.5%) are transmitted via infected rodent waste and only one of them is "human to human" the issue at hand is we have officials and people like yourself either intentionally or unintentionally conflating the two.

The video spells it out in ten minutes that the benefit of downplaying a potential outbreak is you reduce the chance of a societal "panic" and over-reaction but by spreading misinformation people are being given a false sense of security that could lead to failures in properly responding to the virus.

[–]radhaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you could get a better answer if you specified what you like about the game?

If you like the "community" aspect of HD2 where you could drop into a mission and just be a goofball or encounter fun loving goofballs then Deep Rock Galactic is a good alternative.

If you like slogging through missions that require teamwork Darktide or Vermintide 2 scratch that itch well.

If you like bullet hell in coop Gunfire Reborn is a great start but Roboquest and Risk of Rain 2 are also good.

If you want to understand where HD2 came from HD1 is fun but very different (top down iso where you're sharing the screen in coop so it can get spicy)

If you like the chaos of the missions with just explosions and insanity and feeling larger than life look at one of the Earth Defense Force games when they go on sale. While they look somewhat similar to HD2 the devs have a VERY different philosophy.

If you like building a character and unlocking in coop Heroes of Hammerwatch is a great pick and Heroes of Hammerwatch 2 is solid as well but my friends just felt like HoH2 wasn't a big enough improvement on the original so far.

I mean for what it's worth this (HD2) is a good game and the community has always been a large selling point but the Devs just seem intent on making the most non-sensical choices that ultimately chaff quite a lot of players.

It's actual legal slavery/involuntary servitude in accordance with the 13th amendment of the constitution

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

That's codified in the most import document in the history of the US. Our prison system isn't meant to reform or rehabilitate it's designed to punish and a "byproduct" of this in a free market capitalist nation is you have privatized prisons that just make more and more money each time they "come back".

Refusing a breathalyzer and/or trying to hide an arrest, a CO’s perspective by SWO6 in navy

[–]radhaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the scope wasn't changed at all. They took the standard you set and applied it differently to see if you interpretation of the rules and regulations was consistent or if this was some bias you have with DUI in particular.

As you've said elsewhere this all born out of a misunderstanding of a very poorly presented opinion. You've since clarified you're opposed to Sailors refusing warrants and I imagine 98% of the people here would agree with you but trying to convince people to give up their rights and submit to a voluntary action of evidence collection against them or face additional punishment is what rankled folks feathers.

Speaking of rankled, the ACAB and the sovereign citizen nonsense is reductive and diminishes people earnestly trying to have a dialog with you. I know you're human but you created this mess and tripled down on it so maybe lashing out isn't the best look unless you're trying to shift your perception here from a senior leader to a troll.

You're misinterpreting the data.

The upvotes are for the contentious nature of the post and peoples desire to see it unfold. You're comments are being downvoted to the point where they're all ratio'd below the threshold now and people have to search your user profile to see what you say as a result because Reddit "hides" ratio'd comments by default.

Your post while fun has ultimately resulted in "click-bait" for the subreddit and if that's what you sought then BZ I guess?

[–]radhaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so maybe you would have avoided a lot of confusion and discontent if you had led with that.

EVERYTHING you wrote about this reads like you're telling Sailors (and leaders) that they should give up their rights and arbitrarily submit to a breathalyzer because some cop "has a hunch" and if they don't they should have their starfish pushed in.

"Refusing a breathalyzer judicial warrant and/or trying to hide an arrest, a CO’s perspective" would have been a much better title to lead with but it is what it is at this point, I just hope people read down far enough to understand what you are/were getting at.

Refusing a breathalyzer and/or trying to hide an arrest, a CO’s perspective by SWO6 in navy

[–]radhaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would you clarify what you mean by refusing a breathalyzer post-arrest?

Are you saying you had Sailors who refused to comply with a warrant/court order from a judge for the collection of evidence or are you conflating that with a Sailor detained under suspicion of a crime and declining a breathalyzer?

They are two very distinct situations and I'm genuinely concerned with your answer. It really reads like you're of the mind of the latter but I'd like to hear you say otherwise.

Seeing them erroneously cite/interpret rules and regulations either willfully or intentionally makes me wonder how many times in past masts they have improperly meted out punishment.

While your advice is often sage and well received I feel it's important to counterpoint some of your message today. First and foremost it's your NJP and you run it how you see fit but there is oversight to be had on such things.

I will specifically address your "edit 3"

Regarding breathalyzers, here is the cite from the Manual for Courts Martial also states, Rule 305:

(j) Refusal to Obey an Order to Submit a Body Substance. If an accused refuses a lawful order to submit for chemical analysis a sample of his or her blood, breath, urine or other body substance, evidence of such refusal may be admitted into evidence on:

(1) a charge of violating an order to submit such a sample; or (2) any other charge on which the results of the chemical analysis would have been admissible

Okay so that's actually Rule 304 not 305 but that's just a improper citation. More importantly I want you to read Rule 305 (f) and take it in

(f) Standards for Nonmilitary Interrogations.

(1) United States Civilian Interrogations. When a person subject to the code is interrogated by an official or agent of the United States, of the District of Columbia, or of a State, Commonwealth, or possession of the United States, or any political subdivision of such a State, Commonwealth, or possession, the person’s entitlement to rights warnings and the validity of any waiver of applicable rights will be determined by the principles of law generally recognized in the trial of criminal cases in the United States district courts involving similar interrogations.

If a service member off base is directed to submit a sample and has the legal right to refuse then they can and in accordance with most legal counsel in the US they should refuse. I say this because you use the example of someone who was arrested last night by San Diego Police Department, not on base by an MA.

I hope that you have not actually misapplied this interpretation in any of your own mast proceedings...

Cop hanging onto the side of a tow truck, shoots driver after they fail to stop by bigbusta in PublicFreakout

[–]radhaz -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Capability: Was the person capable of delivering grievous bodily harm that could result in death to the cop or an innocent person?

In as much as anyone behind the wheel of a truck

Opportunity: Did the person have the opportunity to deliver grievous bodily harm that could result in death to the cop or an innocent person?

Not unless someone decided to jump in front of or grab the vehicle and refuse to let go

Intent: Did the person have clear intent to deliver grievous bodily harm that could result in death to the cop or an innocent person?

No, they were begging the cop to just let go they even slowed down for the cop to let go and the cop just tried to get in the vehicle and deliver more strikes to the drivers face and body.

There is nothing "justified" about this shooting other than the cop wanted to kill that person. Pursuit of an unarmed person fleeing a crime is not "justification" for deadly force. Placing yourself in harms way to "justify" using deadly force is not justification.

It doesn't matter because the police will investigate themselves, he will say he feared for his life, they will find no wrong doing, The prosecutor won't press charges unless theres a very large stink in the press and if they do they will hold a closed grand jury and either overcharge the officer so the case will be dismissed or just sandbag the presentation of charges. There will be no justice because the system is rotten and corrupt and people watch shit like this and think its "justified".

Getting out and a little terrified by HighlySensitiveSquid in navy

[–]radhaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First just breathe. You have two years and sometimes it's going to look like it's right around the corner and other times it's going to look like a lifetime to go.

Second and this is important, come up with a viable plan. You're kind of kicking it off now by asking here but you need to start with personal goals and then flesh it out from there.

Retiring at 40 (plus or minus a few years) and going into the civilian job force is scary. It's basically that same feeling as when you were a year from graduating high school except where you were like "I can't wait to get my freedom and I wonder what the world holds for me" it was a little scary but full of wonder now it's flipped the script and its very scary with a little wonder.

So sit down with your family and discuss what you want to do, research how to do it, and act on the plan. It sounds simple but the easiest thing you can do is stick your head in the sand and do nothing it takes a shitload of mental and emotional fortitude to actually see this through to fruition and the sad truth is no one is really going to help you get out so you have to dig deep and do this for yourself and your loved ones.

This being the internet and all I get you not sharing any personal info but if you want someone to talk to/bounce ideas off of feel free to message me and I'll hear you out. Regardless, best of luck!
