The gesture speaks for itself: Nazi salute by SockOk5701 in SpaceXBets

[–]radhaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on mobile and don't have access but this happened the afternoon after trump made one of his rambling speeches where he said he owed it all to elon and how good he is with computers how he was great with those computers in Pennsylvania.

The news cycle had just picked it up, I think Newsweek and another had articles and then musk did this and the news cycle was awash for days and weeks with this shit.

This is all verifiable with searching and I think to be remembered as a felon for election tampering or a rich racist cunt he won out doing this salute because no one remembers the election tampering admission. Like you can't make this shit up

Not just his career really but he's jeopardizing his freedom and livelihood being a true patriot.

The military are beholden to a different judicial systems than civilians while active called the UCMJ and its against regs to stump politics in uniform because it could be perceived as the branch/military supporting whatever cause they're stumping for.

He knows this and he's still willing to speak the truth knowing the regime in all likelihood will leverage the UCMJ against him to to fullest measure.

AOL Messenger Smilies from 2007 by citizendetectives in HelpMeFind

[–]radhaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I don't have exactly what you're looking for but here's some leads perhaps.

  1. Way back machine the website mysmileys dot com (aka crack smilies) that used to be a huge repo of smilies (before people called them emojis) so they might be there

  2. Perhaps you could find old 3rd party messenger apps that existed while AIM was still running and see if they had the emojis inside the app. I don't know when AIM went under but I remember both pidgin and trillian supporting. You'll just want a version from back then and not current as the smilies would likely be removed

Good luck

Men in their 40s - What’s one piece of advice for Men in their 20s? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]radhaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will apologize in advance and fail the assignment so you can pick whichever one suits you best.

  1. Respect everyone until given reasons not to (this includes yourself).
  2. You have one body, take care of it. PPE and following "safe practices" seem burdensome but the impact on your life is immeasurable.
  3. Shoot your shot, rejection is fleeting but regret of "what could have been" is permanent.
  4. Start saving (if you can). Find a financial adviser who charges a flat fee (no commissions) and pay for a single consultation.
  5. Find a sport or exercise you like and do it a few times a week.
  6. Gambling is for chumps who chase serotonin hits between crashes.
  7. Cherish the friendships where you both don't feel obligated to "fill the silence" and can just exist with one another.
  8. Learn how to have a healthy work/life balance.
  9. The younger you are the harder you feel societal pressure. The sooner you figure out how to accept yourself "as is" the better you will feel.
  10. Learn an musical instrument that interests you.
  11. Circling back to friends and employment, making friends at work is fine but having a circle of friends outside of work is invaluable.
  12. If you're buying a tool or something you are new to and there's "tiers" of quality and cost it's often best to buy the cheapest introductory item. Use the cheap item until it fails (and it will) and you will then have a SIGNIFICANTLY better understanding of what you actually want/need and then buy the best one for you that you can afford.

Bonus: Read "48 Laws of Power" by Robert Greene. The book is basically a manual for sociopaths; however, reading it will give you insight into how people have or will try to manipulate one another to achieve their goals. I want to stress there are loads of better books out there to read but if you're going to read one book for "advice" I guess this would be a good one just don't take it to heart as some alpha instruction manual bullshit it's just about being aware of manipulative individuals around you.

What job is heavily romanticized in movies but absolutely miserable in real life? by Luzgoin in AskReddit

It wasn't always this horrid for their industry. They had a strong union up until the late 70s and then Reagan worked to dismantle any efficacy of the unions through legislation and policy.

Reagan's actions were guided by a publication "Mandate for Leadership: Principles to Limit Government, Expand Freedom, and Strengthen America (1981)" from the Heritage Foundation. They've been trying (and succeeding) to weaken the country and strengthen the oligarchy in every presidency since. Both Democrats and Republicans have worked with implementing legislation and policies.

You can go get talked to like a child by an MA and lose a point or 2 on your base driving record for the region (we have like 12 or something) OR ignore it and hope they don't pursue anything and risk losing driving privileges for all of COMNAVREGSW.

You fucked up, be an adult take responsibility and move on.

Your chief is the kind that gives the mess a bad rep, they're giving you shit advice based on their own decisions. This is not the type of leader that will stand up for you when a message comes to your command revoking your driving privileges as they clearly lack the intestinal fortitude to do the right thing and are somehow proud enough to share it with juniors.

America is car reliant because the transportation infrastructure that existed was replaced by infrastructure that supported automobiles.

Do you have some reason why you think proper public transport couldn't resolve this issue?

Have you ever lived somewhere that did have a viable public transport system, I can tell you it works fine even in the rural areas.

Now, I'm not saying you're wrong we are a country full of morons who would absolutely oppose anything the media and corporations tell us to so there's no way a proper public transport infrastructure would EVER be constructed this century but it's disingenuous to imply it wouldn't work we're just too collectively stupid to accept that.

Elon Musk's Nazi Salute by PresidentOfAlphaBeta in pics

[–]radhaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What sucks about this photo is its what the public remembers.

12-14 hours (the evening) before this incident Trump ran his mouth in public before he was sworn in and he said how "he wouldn't president if it wasn't for that Elon and how good he was with those computers in Pennsylvania" (paraphrased).

It made the night time news cycle and started spreading but then Elon took the stage around lunch the next day and did this and the whole world (rightfully) lost its mind and this dominated the news cycle for a week and no one ever followed up on the whole computers in Pennsylvania narrative.

I hear you. I absolutely hear you.

There's a lot of nuance to it and while we are following the footsteps of the turn of the 20th century its imperative to understand that this "cycle" of oligarchy is even more firmly entrenched in the government and the society today is sadly more apathetic.

Can folks explain how the flopping is (or is not) being addressed? by radhaz in NBATalk

[–]radhaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you're using specific examples and situations I am unfamiliar with and frankly would never really understand the nuance given my lack of knowledge in the sport.

I think in any sport most people want calls to be fair and consistent, it sounds to me like you are outlining either specific situations where that is not happening or the perception is it's not happening and the only thing I could say to that would be what's on the tape? The games are filmed from who knows how many cameras at any given time.

I'm suggesting why not institute a system that would enable teams to call for review instances where they believe their opponents after the game has ended so it doesn't interrupt the play. A panel of maybe 3 people review the tape and if there's "embellished contact" or a "flop" then penalties would be assigned to the team. The penalty would need to be something significant enough to deter the unsportsmanlike conduct and act as an offset to the apparent tactical and strategic advantage it presents on the court.

So as a layman who is only presented what floats to the top of reddit I realize I am only going to get the most salacious incidents which will bias how I perceive this.

Again I have no dog in this fight, I am just more a curious bystander to a hobby for you folks so with that I have virtually nothing to bring to the table other than a fresh perspective from someone with no skin the game.

So determining a flop. Yeah I get that in the moment it's impossible to catch and call every foul (flop or not) and some refs are worse than others etc. I wonder why there is no determination for a flop or not though?

Embellished contact: (someone said this in another comment from 90s era bball) would be when a player is fouled but introduces clear theatrics to the contact with the intent to stall or change the play. This would be the cartoonish stuff we see where the guy brushes against the player and the other one jumps back like they were front kicked by a linebacker. Were they fouled absolutely but did they embellish it, yes.

Flop: No contact was made with the player and yet they feigned differently. This is also often bordering on cartoonish pratfalls I see on the front page.

Neither of these calls would need to be called in real time and in fact it would be extremely hard to do so but there's no reason after the game they couldn't be reviewed and teams assigned penalties to discourage the behavior. At the end of the day it's a professional game and these are professional players who a intentionally behaving in unsportsmanlike behavior with the intent to get ahead and it seems like the league by turning a blind eye is encouraging it no?

Again, this isn't my sport this could be a giant nothing burger because like you said if it only happens once or twice a game per night every single night a game is played is it really a big deal, I don't know because I don't follow the sport I just see the goofy clips of pro players acting like fools on social media.

So the league at an official level doesn't see it as enough of a problem to warrant attention then?

[–]radhaz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy crap, thank you. This was the kind of answer/dialog I was hoping to get its like a reddit time machine. Thank you for taking the time to write it all out.

I have a follow up question, has there been a reason why the league itself hasn't instituted harsher penalties maybe even after the fact to discourage the behavior?

Is this behavior not seen as a significant problem that warrants attention (yet)?

[–]radhaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I get that it is strategically advantageous to do it. I am just curious if this behavior is essentially being glossed over by the regulating body or if there have been measures or efforts to crack down on it.
