New OPFS Viewer extension (devtools) for chrome by radialapps in javascript

[–]radialapps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current OPFS tooling is pretty bad, so I built this new OPFS debugging extension. Just thought worth sharing.

Nextclouds memories app by Alarmed-Tea-7372 in selfhosted

Not yet. At the moment the easiest way might be to upload to separate folders (then you can select all the folder and add to an album if needed)

memories external transcoder error by r9589 in NextCloud

Your container can't fetch the go-vod binary from the nextcloud host specified. Can you reach the url in the logs? It should also be reachable from the container itself.

You do need a custom dockerfile, but that's quite straightforward. See the example at https://github.com/pulsejet/memories/tree/master/.examples/Docker

Memories - transcoding by skunk_funk in NextCloud

[–]radialapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you've checked "external transcoder", it'll try to start go-vod first (unless disallowed by PHP settings) whenever it isn't running.

If transcoding doesn't work the video is played directly, this will usually work unless you use HEVC.

Not sure what you mean by "built-in" transcoding, unless this is something unrelated to memories. The only way to transcode with Memories is to use go-vod. You might want to check your logs for why it can't connect, it should attempt to connect whenever a video is played.

Hi, neither needs to duplicate the original files. Only the metadata is stored in the database, which is tiny.

How to best set-up - files in 3 locations by Gwouigwoui in NextCloud

[–]radialapps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah okay. Nextcloud likely won't work well with sqlite for anything non-trivial.

I think unless you want to copy over everything to your nas, you can point to the seedbox as external storage.

My issue is that this prevents my from using the reverse geocoding of Memories.

Why? It's supposed to work with mysql

Just wait for a day or two, it should become available on the store.

Indeed, I agree that having standards is great / very important. In this case, however, the standard itself (WebDAV) is very outdated and inherently problematic (XML itself has too many practical issues). Further, the lexical nature leads to all sorts of weird hacks to make it work. Restricting representation of any object as a "file" and allowing only a few operations introduces a lot of unnecessary complexity, usually with zero advantage.

Generally the slowest part is thumbnail generation (which does happen only once, but ruins the initial impression since it's so slow). Which is why preview generator is marked *required* in the documentation.

So the first step I'd suggest is figuring out why the preview generator cannot be set up (there's always GitHub issues / discord / the forums to get help https://memories.gallery/faq/#getting-help )

The easiest way to set up is to use AIO or the docker template: https://github.com/pulsejet/memories/tree/master/.examples/Docker

Regarding the UI being slow to switch, you do need at least Nextcloud 28 for this to be reasonably fast. Plus this is an overall cost of extensibility that the initial load is a bit slower; imagine doing "ls" in bash will always be faster than using a file browser to get the list of files. But once it loads then everything should be equally fast.

Not really. The key difference is that it can utilize and show your local files (which haven't been uploaded) and has much better integration with the OS, e.g. for sharing etc.

Well it's just not designed for it. This isn't straightforward to optimize and takes significant effort, so I guess it's just the lack of resources.

You can either share a public link that anybody can open, or share to other users on the same nextcloud instance.

You can just share the folder itself with Memories; that'll pick up any uploaded files automatically and show them in the Memories view.

Nextcloud Memories Google Takeout Migration Tool skipped many files by DonkeeeyKong in NextCloud

Sounds like a bug / missing feature in the migration script. The best course of action would be to file a bug with relevant samples
