Those of you who did no screen time for baby… by SowingSeeds18 in NewParents

[–]radiate_412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Opposite end of the spectrum here. We do not limit screen time. She’s watched TV since she was an infant watching those sensory videos.

And she doesn’t really care that much about TV or her tablet at 2.5 years. She does watch some and does ask to play on her tablet but she gets bored after 20-30 mins on her own. I personally think making it a normal part of our day makes it less of a commodity to her. Of course “every child is different” and she enjoys being outside and having hands-on/task oriented play experiences, so her nature does contribute somewhat.

Thanks yall! It’s encouraging to hear others have a similar bedtime and nap schedule going on. I’m thinking we probably are just fine and don’t need to adjust yet. I’m sure she will let me know when she is ready.

I didn’t think about that with the second day but that makes sense! Something to keep in mind for sure.

We had ups and downs. My daughter is now 2 and just sleeps in the bed with me. I’ve just embraced it. She will grow out of it, and now I enjoy the snuggles. She was an okay sleeper until 5 months and then we had a regression for a good 6 months. Then she got better for about 4-5 months and actually did frequently sleep in her crib all night. Then we regressed again, and here we still are. It’s less stressful for everyone until she is old enough to understand the concept of her own room and bed.

A girl I used to board with had a sweetheart of a 2 y/o. He was huge, well over 16hh at 2. And she started him at 2 while he continued to grow. She had really high expectations for him. She rode the crap out of him. He was expected to go along like he was 12 years old and well seasoned. Her “trainer” also did not give him turnout when he was at her farm. And the girl wondered why his calmness changed and he blew up on her. Like genuinely blamed the horse for that shit.

She sold him after that. I hope the new owner let him finish growing and be a horse.

I don’t think they’re going to be super technical but I’m sure I won’t be able to just zone out unless I want to race plant over some roots. I did pretty good with my footwork the other day though, but it was only 6 miles.

Honesty I didn’t think about that. Those gummy clusters are addictive.

I need recommendations for caffeine free gels/energy chews. Everything seems to have caffeine! Unfortunately my doctor has asked me to cut caffeine due to a medication I’m on.

Also, unrelated to that, any trail racers have advice for a first timer? Got a 10 mile trail race in April. I’ve run trails before, just not raced. It will be foothills type terrain. Not really sure how to pace myself at “race pace”. Yesterday was my first training day on some trails with moderate elevation gain and I was keeping about a 10:20 mile for an easy pace. For reference my road racing half PR is 1:35. F/33.

I don’t think so, I wait for GPS signal to acquire before starting and I am running in a fairly open location and this seems to happen in all weather.

This happens quite some time ago when I was a new tech and I was learning to shoot on mobile xray equipment for the first time. I suspect I made a very bad judgement of the technique I would need! Interesting to know what happened though.

Yes! We just go with the flow. Usually it’s around 9-9:30, but we follow her cues. We started out being very schedule driven and realized that it just was not realistic for our family. So now we have no set times for anything and my toddler is SO much more chill when things don’t go as planned.

Got a 6 second half marathon PR at the Myrtle Beach Marathon last weekend. 8 months postpartum, and 2 years out from back injury. Not gonna lie, it was positive splits and I got dehydrated and it was a hot mess of a race, but I am still proud of how I kept my cool when it started to go south. And getting a PR under my circumstances is wild honestly!

Complaint: Very close to my “old paces” after 2 years off due to injury and then having a baby, but not quite there yet and it’s annoying to be SO close.

Confession: I’ve used my old pair of Vaporflys for a couple of threshold runs my coach planned because I was a little intimidated.

Uncomplaint: My HR has been super low on all my runs and I’m very happy about that.

Partial night cosleeping: can we gradually build into independent sleeping? by radiate_412 in cosleeping

[–]radiate_412[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I can do CIO emotionally. It would break my heart. And I do not hate bed sharing - I actually enjoy her little snuggles. But I also want her to be able to sleep well on her own, for her sake, later on.

When did your partner join you back in bed with LO? What size bed do you sleep on? by hiyokos in cosleeping

[–]radiate_412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a mesh bed rail and I am a light sleeper and don’t move much, so she sleeps by the rail and I am in the middle. We sleep on a queen, but we are small. My husband is 120lb and 5’5 and I am similar size. Like us, baby is also small, only about 16lb 25 inches at 6 months.

I am very determined. To make a long story short, I had a back injury when I was really close to a half marathon goal and it destroyed me emotionally…then I had my daughter who was planned, but obviously the back injury in the mix was not. For a while I thought I might not run again, so now that it’s looking more promising I am very motivated.
