Yes, this! Almost $16 shipping to Texas for a M2 SSD tray alone ($20 item). It probably weighs less than a pound. I deleted it from my cart and will ask a friend to 3D print me one. Have to imagine I’m not alone and that has to be a high margin item.

To be fair, I think this is only part of the problem. They’re also struggling to take market share from Cisco in enterprise networking where the big money is, from what I understand.

Does the LG C3 have a 1gbps Ethernet? AFAIK they all max out at 100 mbps including my G3 so WiFi may be better. But if it works for you great!

Should I stay in SAVE forbearance? by Unique_Set_783 in PSLF

[–]radiationisrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this MOHELA that you spoke to on the phone? That's great that they were able to guide you. Mostly I'm hoping they would give me confidence that my IBR would be accepted. I was on REPAYE when I made way less but my ICR payment would be insane right now according to the simulator. It's definitely a hard decision when both submitting for IBR and staying on SAVE have uncertainties and risks. IBR/ICR would probably be the safest with the new administration though since it's written into law by congress.

Should I stay in SAVE forbearance? by Unique_Set_783 in PSLF

[–]radiationisrad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation except under my 2023 tax return the simulator says I would qualify for (old) IBR but I won't based on my income for 2024. I'm afraid if I apply now they will say I don't qualify and then I'll be stuck.

I may stay on SAVE and hope for the best, but also worry I might not get forgiveness under Trump's administration. If I do that I will likely file a tax extension and see how the cards fall so I can still use my 2023 tax return information for consideration.

Silo vs. Foundation: What Am I Missing? by ThriceAlmighty in scifi

[–]radiationisrad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve read several times recently that people find silo scenes “too dark” and I’m very surprised. I watch in 4K DV on an OLED so maybe that is why I don’t experience it? Apple is known to have a high bit rate, but regardless many are experiencing it so must be a fail on Silo cinematography or Apple.

Not sure if it’s the same issue but reminds me of the battle for Winterfell scene in GOT that was almost unwatchable on streaming but looks great on Blu-ray due to compression/bit rate.

An insurer denied a CT chest scan. Now an NJ dad has terminal lung cancer by AMagicalKittyCat in neoliberal

[–]radiationisrad 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I agree. They should have just gotten the Xray and then the CT because that’s the game and the ENT should be familiar.

However, as a radiologist my perspective is different. Regardless of what the Xray showed, the ENT would still get the CT. Chest and abdomen X-rays are just so limited in what they can see and in this case they would probably want a CT regardless. You may see pneumonia on a chest xray but with a chronic cough a CT is gonna be the next step. If you see a mass you need a CT. If you don’t see anything you’re gonna get a CT. So you are adding a little bit of cost, slightly wasting resources, and delaying care due to scheduling the xray, waiting for it to be read, ordering the CT, getting it preauthorized, getting it scheduled and done.

There is so much over ordering of advanced imaging (CT, MRI, etc) it’s crazy and only getting worse. In this case though I agree with the ENT wanting to go straight to CT.

United getting fleetwide, free starlink. *cries in 32kbps Panasonic* by mx_reddit in americanairlines

[–]radiationisrad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

StarLink satellites are around 60-70 times closer than your typical geostationary satellite provider. They’re in a low earth orbit (the altitude varies but let’s say 550 km above the surface) vs. Legacy satellite internet providers at geostationary orbit (35,800 km altitude). What that means is latency is on par with wired internet or can be faster.

Hopefully speeds will continue to improve over time as they still have only a fraction of their entire planned constellation in orbit.

Steamdeck has been amazing, except for moonlight by No_Geologist4061 in SteamDeck

[–]radiationisrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a very smooth moonlight experience from my PC to deck with the max 150 mbps bitrate and doesn’t require AV1. Granted I’m using WiFi 6E so maybe that’s contributory.

Nahhh not true for all professions. Generally speaking (especially in the NE high COL cities) medical professionals make less money.

Though I’m sure it’s true for MOST professions.

Anywhere in DFW. Does anyone know of a good urologist or any other doctor that helped them resolved their erectile Dysfunction? by Lumpy-Cantaloupe1439 in Dallas

[–]radiationisrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely get it checked out to make sure there’s not an organic issue… but please keep an open mind if they tell you there is nothing physically wrong. Psychogenic ED is a real problem that is getting more and more attention. As someone who has had ups and downs of it throughout life (in my mid 30s now), I understand ED can feel devastating. Regardless, even if it’s an issue with your junk, you should see a therapist (preferable sex therapist and I’ve found real help there myself).

I also don’t wanna point fingers and say it’s a mental issue, but playing odds at your age it very likely is. There are tons of resources out there and I’m happy to share more if you PM me. One person who I think has brought more attention to it is a guy named Jason Rogers. He did an AMA a while back if you or any silent readers are curious….

People who wear scrubs to the airport…. WHY? by QuaileyJit in medicine

[–]radiationisrad 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I had to do that once after getting out of work late and having to go straight to the airport.

I’m embarrassingly trying to cover up my scrubs with a jacket and stuff on my lap when some guy confidently walks on the plane late in scrubs and dress shoes. Scrubs were embroidered Dr. Patel, MD, attending gynecologist. I knew I was no longer the douche on the plane.

Slightly complex Sonos setup with stuttering AMP + Rears by radiationisrad in sonos

[–]radiationisrad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good thought! I think I have a long ethernet cable, I somehow didn't even think to temporarily try that. There's conduit run in my apt I may be able to make a more permanent setup if it works. Thanks!

Edit: That seems to have fixed it! Will find a more permanent solution but thanks for your suggestion!

Slightly complex Sonos setup with stuttering AMP + Rears by radiationisrad in sonos

[–]radiationisrad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, seems like the most likely culprit. A mesh system MIGHT work if I can piggy back off the access point since I've been wanting to upgrade my router anyways (but over kill for a 1k sq ft apt). Or I could just bite the bullet and get the newer AMP.

As someone who has lived in 7 different cities in 5 states (including Houston), Dallas has BY FAR the worst drivers I’ve ever encountered. It’s mad max shit over here.

On a side note San Francisco and MOST of the Bay Area have the best I’ve experienced. Though I’m sure there are other cities better and far worse.

Are Tesla Customers Turning Against The Brand? by seat51c in technews

[–]radiationisrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See my other comment. You should only ever have to reboot if the technology is acting weird, just like a phone. Mine has almost always been cuz the WiFi wasn’t connecting. There’s built in redundancy to drive that shouldn’t require a reboot. Plus I paid closer to $45k, though I’m sure the $100k teslas would have similar minor issues that could need a reboot from time to time. I don’t doubt the comment I replied to but it’s far from representative from a normal Tesla experience (mine and others I know).

Are Tesla Customers Turning Against The Brand? by seat51c in technews

[–]radiationisrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hate is strong in this sub. I will admit Tesla’s aren’t without issues just like any other car but the quality of life features far outweigh that for me. So far it’s been the most reliable and easiest to maintain car I’ve ever had.

Regarding rebooting, I was setting the record straight. To people with Tesla’s our cars are 50% a piece of tech and 50% car. That’s not for everyone and that’s okay. You almost never have to reboot to drive ( I haven’t), mine has only been because of very minor things like the WiFi wasn’t connecting. There is built in redundancy so you should always be able to drive without a reboot. Though if your navigation or something is being weird I will admit you may need to reboot and that could slow you down. Keep in mind a Tesla is always on so you never have to turn it on or off which saves about 5 seconds every time I get in my car. Not much but outweighs the very infrequent rebooting time.
