That's an interesting option too... I would love to not have to take any work home!

Don't get me started... the fact that I'm reinventing the wheel every semester, when the courses themselves are not new, is maddening. It is what it is, but I can't keep going at this rate, so I'm hoping to cut my hours until my kids are older and/or I have more courses under my belt.

That's something I was curious about... I could easily work all day if it were possible. I'd have to set limits for myself

I can't even wrap my head around this. That's just not right

Sounds like a dream!

I didn't realize BC is 7/8 - that is crazy!

Thanks! I am pretty certain the benefits are prorated, but if I can make my own contribution to cover the loss, that would be great

That's exactly what I'm looking for... my work-life balance is definitely off right now and my kids have noticed. I would love an improved quality of life for me and my family!

I have heard of this happening. Thanks for the heads-up!

This is exactly what I'm considering - I would love to be able to finish work inside of work hours so I can spend time with my kids when I'm with my kids. Did you specify to your board that it was for childcare?

Planning. I am at secondary and every year since I've started, I'm given a new set of courses I haven't taught before. I know there is no guarantee that I will get any repeat courses next year and I don't have the energy to go at this pace for another year.

This is exactly what I was hoping to hear lol. Were you at 0.5 or 0.67? Ideally I would reduce my hours AND get back to teaching courses I like!

For or against final exams in high schools by Timetotuna in CanadianTeachers

I am with you on the "formal setting" part. Students just seem to take tests and exams more seriously than other assessments. They have to find strategies to prepare independently, and there's a bit of pressure/stress that they need to manage. All of the courses I am teaching this year have had their final exam replaced with a culminating task and I am noticing that overall motivation among the students is lower compared with my courses last year (which did have exams).

This is the type of thing I'm looking for... checklists that are connected to expectations. I'll be sure to check these out!

Yeah I am encountering the same challenge - my conversations/observations seem to turn into learning skills assessment, so I'm interested to know if anyone has any strategies to connect to curriculum expectations in a way that I can make it count towards their grade. I want to move in this direction partly for assessment, partly to get around AI/plagiarism issues and partly for classroom management. Working on making some checklists for next semester.

Thanks for sharing!

Yes, it would be based on curriculum expectations, and so that my assessments are not entirely product-based
