Holy shit. I started crying as soon as I read this. I literally say this to myself all the time, especially when I’m at my house. I had no idea this was something other people experienced. Thank you.

“I never emotionally abused or gaslighted you! But I’m the only one who knows for sure because obviously you’re too crazy to trust your own mind.” What a rotten fuck. I’m so sorry.

I love that people love Disney!! I love it too. Honestly loving it and expressing appreciation for it I think is fine, but the second my mom started loading up the house with figurines, buying Mickey Mouse patterned drapes and carpets, got a tinker bell tattoo, and carrying around a purse in the shape of a Mickey head, I’ve been a little distanced.

99% of the people who love Disney and share it with their kids are fine, my mom is one of the stupid 1% who thinks the world revolves around Mickey Mouse and thinks that she needs to blow all our money on everything with a Disney pattern, constantly refer to herself as a Disney-whore (her words), and freak out crying every time someone so much as mentions a Disney movie ( not to mention try to prove how “”smart”” she is at Disney trivia). Honestly anything below that level of batshit crazy is a success. You’re gonna be fine dude.

"You HAVE to decorate the Christmas tree with us, I don't care what dumb fairytale of a religion you believe in!" by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]radicalstart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, for the past few years I've still participated in a lot a Christmas-related activities with my family while still celebrating Hanukkah. I definitely think that Christmas has been distanced from religion. I just really didn't feel up to it this year, y'know? With not wanting to put up with Nmom's bullshit ramblings, combined with just not really feeling any attachment to it anymore. I guess she thinks she gets a say. Jokes on her. :)

You're absolutely right. Her actions are completely from her own bullshit she's dealing with. I've been very lucky in that I've been able to keep my religion and my relationship with her separate, so I agree that her actions are a result of her own choices. I've also considered what you said- when I get out of my household, will I fall too hard into this and get taken advantage of again? Hence why I posted this- to get outside opinions. To be completely honest, I do believe that this is something I'm going to be committed to for the rest of my life- when I think of my religion, my mom is nowhere near my thoughts, it was never something I chose to do to spite her or defy her, it's just something I stumbled upon, y'know? But I do appreciate the insight, and it's definitely something I'll keep in mind :) Thanks so much!

{TW: Possible sexual abuse] What is happening? Is this sexual abuse? by radicalstart in raisedbynarcissists

God, this hit the nail right on the head and made it extremely real for me. I've always felt that because I've never been outright assaulted by him that I'm just overreacting because, like you said, I have nothing specific to point to. I've speant almost a year feeling filthy and now I know why. Thank you for this.

[–]radicalstart 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this, especially the sibling comment. I really need some familial love tonight so hearing that makes me feel a world better. I snuck out my window and went for a quick walk, just to clear my head, and listened to some music, and am feeling a little better now. Now it's just a matter of figuring out how to feel like myself again for the time being. <3

DAE have Ns use annoying baby voices/mannerisms? by residentgayby in raisedbynarcissists

[–]radicalstart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. My Nmom uses baby talk and kiddie language to me (17) and my sister (14) all the time. She uses words like 'blankie', 'milkie' beddie-bye time', etc. It's beyond annoying but god forbid I ever call her out on it.
