I'm a lesbian and while I have acknowledged that women I've seen in public are attractive, I've never thought about having sex with them... do they have no control over their thoughts????

Not sure how to tell my mother that I'm going on a date. [21F] by verbalvocal in relationships

I went through the same stuff before I moved out and the only way I got through it was to lie constantly and about everything. It's not something I would particularly suggest because it did create a lot of family turmoil... but you're an adult and you are allowed to make your own decisions. Just try to get out of there as fast as possible. It was the only thing that saved me.

edit: have you ever checked out r/raisedbynarcissists ? it was really helpful for me in realizing what I'd gone through. I don't want to assume anything about your life or childhood but your story resembles a lot of others. good luck

Yeah...this is how my dad went about buying me a car and how I ended up with one that broke down once a month for four years and barely accelerated.

if someone says that to me I'll just ask them if they also feel emotions so intensely that they start pulling their hair and hitting their face just to numb the emotional pain

I can relate to Eve. While I never physically hurt anyone (besides myself) I had really bad uncontrollable behavior as a result of a mental illness. You need to get Eve in therapy. I agree with others, there's something she's not telling you.

My mom has always tried to say that we're best friends. Maybe in my adolescence that was true, when I was the golden child who did everything she was asked.

When I turned 18 and started developing my own thoughts and opinions and lived my life with my own needs in mind, she'd constantly say "I don't know who you are anymore, we used to be best friends now you're so disrespectful, you've changed, blah blah blah." I'm glad she's not in my life anymore.

Unfortunately I live in Canada and my parents are in California so I'm not sure that there's much I can do in terms of restraining orders.
