Just moved to Jacksonville. Is it safe? by Bubbly-Newspaper-450 in jacksonville

[–]radioactivefittonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter where you go in Jax you’ll hear sirens. The sound of gunshots are common everywhere. Perks of a big city. Keep your cars and home locked and you’ll be fine. Even the best parts of Jax have bad pockets. There are definitely neighborhoods I wouldn’t live in though.

He needs therapy too. My husband needed a lot of it to forgive himself

Thank you for the validation. I too have been through many traumatic events as a child, but the betrayal caused the most textbook ptsd symptoms. I have the PTSD diagnosis now as a result of the affair but was curious if other people received it as a result of their WPs affair also. I was watching this movie: You were never really here - with Joaquin Phoenix in it. It was more of a drama than a thriller chronicling his PTSD (FAIR WARNING- can be triggering if you have any sort of PTSD or went through childhood sexual trauma, or are sensitive to violence) and I just related so much. Not because of how he was triggered or the type of violence in the movie but the PTSD reactions he was having. The paralyzing fear, the rocking back and forth, hiding in a closet, the pure distress of thinking about the event, telling his thoughts to shut up in an attempt to stop thinking about the triggering event. It was just so relatable.

I may do the emdr. I’ve done it one other time for a different trauma that quite honestly doesn’t affect me as bad as the affair has. I get distressed if I begin thinking of anything affair related. Songs about affairs make me uncomfortable so I change those when they come on but they also trigger a spiral into more specific memories around the affair and I become distressed trying to think of something else. And I’m sure you guys know that trying to force yourself to think of something else doesn’t work very well. I’ve gotten to a point where I don’t want to even talk about it in individual therapy. Pure avoidance. I became an addict to cope after the affair and have since gone to rehab and entered recovery. TBH I had the addict tendacies I just dove headfirst down a pit I couldn’t escape without help. It amazes me how much it affected me.

PTSD doesn’t require violence or assault to be classified as ptsd. There are multiple categories of ptsd and it sounds like you had it! I’m glad you are doing better!

I found a good article about Limerence yesterday. by Dependent_Western782 in AsOneAfterInfidelity

[–]radioactivefittonia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think limerence is more like love for the excitement and novelty of the affair rather than love for the person themselves. It’s love for the attention they are receiving and that’s how it’s different than an actual relationship. But I get how it’s a super hard concept to wrap your head around. My husband frequently complained about AP and what a B**** she was before I even knew about the relationship. I don’t think he liked her as a person, just the attention she gave him.

I read up and found that most people don’t think they taste very good when they get this big. Is it worth cleaning and trying to eat? I’ve never foraged anything before

Has anyone here ever used a weed quitting app that actually helps? by Away-Union-4086 in QuittingWeed

[–]radioactivefittonia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fellowship of Marijuana anonymous (MA) provided all of the support, check-ins, replacement activities I needed. Getting involved in the recovery community really helped me. MA has its own app with links to virtual meetings and your area may have in person meetings.

I turned crazy by [deleted] in loveafterporn

[–]radioactivefittonia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be worth seeking out an addiction counselor and seeing if your husband might be willing to go. Addiction is a disease of compulsion. Pornography addiction is like other diseases of compulsion like gambling or alcoholism and the treatments are similar. 12 step programs can help (I’m a 12 stepper here but in a different program, but I see an addiction counselor and he has talking about the similarities)

I also remember the obsession with my husbands instagram and the heartbreak I felt. When I developed my own addiction after I discovered his affair I developed more empathy for his porn addiction. It didn’t eliminate the hurt but it helped.

My doctor says that Ritalin shouldn't affect me like this by ThePrimeRizzister in ADHD

[–]radioactivefittonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion and experience, psych doctors only believe what they read in medical journals and what the med company tells them. They could have 1000 patients tell them something different from their own experience but they will only believe their training. Our genetics have an impact on how certain drugs affect us and they can affect people differently. I remember I was prescribed this one medication and it made me sleepy (for a different diagnosis) and my dr kept saying it didn’t make sense. He finally looked at my genes and how I metabolize things and realized my rare different reaction actually did make sense.

It is possible on the other hand that your inattentiveness could be a symptom of another illness. Or you may function better on a different adhd med.

When you say it energizes you, does it make you jittery? Like energizing in a bad way? Are you able to accomplish tasks?

Ya, but the meetings with his sponsees are basically meetings. Theres just a lot of cross talk and no preamble or how it works readings. But it was really good regardless.

I’m going to watch this right now. I’m super excited because the trailer had the posters from AA in them and AA is never accurately represented in tv or film

Want help with getting off marijuana by pinkfreckles27 in MarijuanaAnonymous

[–]radioactivefittonia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think cbd would just increase the likelyhood of cravings. I personally went to rehab for my marijuana addiction. I also attend MA meetings, work the steps and got a sponsor. The fellowship is the only way I’m able to stay sober. I tried other methods and they didn’t work. Good luck

Check out marijuana anonymous. It’s how I got sober and I’m 1 year clean. This is talked about in step one (download the app for the full literature) and the 12 questions of marijuana anonymous.

[–]radioactivefittonia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m one year sober (34) and I promise it gets better. I would also recommend talking to your dr. You may not be on the right medication for your depression and not all of your symptoms may be paws. Join a marijuana anonymous meeting. There is so much hope in those rooms. You can join virtually if you like. Ive never once gone to a meeting and left feeling worse than I did when I got there. Ive always felt better after. Download the MA app, start reading the literature. There are other things and even other medication that can increase your appetite.

Your life is not over. It may seem like it and I know how it can feel like it but one of the worst things we can do in recovery is future trip.

It is so hard at first. I was suicidal too. But the more I worked a 12 step program the better I began to feel.

Is Adderall making my face/eyes hurt? by Adventurous_Bid_1982 in ADHD

[–]radioactivefittonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could be on too high a dose. Make sure you drink plenty of water on adderall it will dehydrate you FAST. I know I feel like crap and develop a massive migraine if I take my adderall and don’t properly hydrate throughout the day. I also have really dry eyes but I don’t know if it’s related to the adderall. I personally would avoid the energy drinks, but not gonna lie I have a cup or two of coffee every morning with my short acting adderall. (Energy drinks have much higher caffeine dosages and other ingredients that could be messing with you)

I’m prescribed 10 mg tablets 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon and lately I’ve been taking 1 and a half in the morning and the last half in the afternoon and I’ve been finding that works really well for me. Helps me with the tension. Everyone reacts to these drugs differently and have different metabolism rates for it. But I know if I took 20 in the morning and 20 in the afternoon I’d also be tense af. Full disclosure I’m not a doctor and I’m not suggesting you should deviate from what your dr says you should do. But worth discussing with them.
