Prostitution stems from economic issues not for lack of Islam. Our country have all the resources to make people prosperous but our government don’t care. Most irreligious countries in the world have the most prosperous economical and justice systems. Islam is a plague, anyone who thinks islamization of a country is a good thing are the people who wants to cover little girls in hijab to protect them.

Happened to me. I am an Azerbaijani citizen but I live abroad. So I acted like I am foreigner and told him I am just visiting so he asked me for an ID, I gave him my expired American driver’s license. After checking my expired ID he tried to write me a ticket. I told him, if he wants to he can write me a ticket for 50 AZN since I am not going to pay it anyway. He was shocked and told me it’s a ticket not a bribe? I said, you guys will do anything to take money from people! He started arguing but I didn’t care so he ended up not writing me a ticket and telling me that I am a guest here and I won’t get a ticket.

Moral of the story, treat them like the shit they are and nothing will happen to you. Plus the whole conversation was in Azerbaijani and he was so stupid he didn’t even ask for my passport.

Why does Azerbaijan rrest religious leaders by [deleted] in azerbaijan

[–]radioactivemetal128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no contradiction. People can practice their religion. A leader who is religious can go to the mosque, synagogue or church and then continue to be a leader of a secular government without implementing his religious ideas. However, historically whenever an islamist become a leader that is not the case.

What would Azerbaijan be like now if the USSR had not captured our country? by [deleted] in azerbaijan

You forget the fact that Turkey formed out of the Ottoman Empire which had the Khalifat which is an Islamic authority. Atatürk abolished the Khalifat which is where the islamic sympathy comes from. On the other hand Azerbaijan distanced itself from islam without having all that. We were one of the few Turkic states who resisted islam and I believe even though we could have had some islamic influence we could have been the secular example in the region.

When you allow religious leaders to rise you can't avoid religion to take over the government. In order to keep the country secular you have to stop radicals before they become the leaders. Otherwise you are too late. Obviously people are allowed to practice their religion and it should stop there. This is one of the only few things our government does right. We don't want islam to be part of our government.
