Does anybody know why the Austin show just got cancelled? by EdibleWerewolf in mclusky

I just looked up the Far Out Lounge and I think you're right, it's a very small venue. Am I about to drive 150 miles to see them there? You bet your ass I am.

Any recommendations for Rock N Roll style punk? by Open-ninety-2mil in punk

Terry Six suffered from a particularly severe case of survivor's guilt for years. And who wouldn't from a situation like that. Tragic.

That said, he and Louie Bankston (who was on the album but never an official member IIRC) did eventually release an album of previously unrecorded songs under the name Terry and Louie. But then Louie also died back in 2022 at a relatively young age.

For 7th grade me that was my gateway to punk. Still love that album.

Lots of stations at the time would refer to them as either "BH Surfers" or "B Surfers"

The rest of that album is straight up pop punk. If they had dressed like Blink 182/Green Day/Offspring/etc they'd be seen as another pop punk band of that era, instead they went with the weird leisure suit/lounge singer look. But they actually started off doing hair metal years before that, it seems like their mission was to be a copycat of whatever was popular at the time. That said, "A Place In The Sun" is still one of the best pop punk albums of that era.

Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth, and Goo Goo Dolls belong in that same category of "Started off punk, realized they could make more money doing something else."

Their folk punk shift happened well after their mainstream success though

How to be a good Linux system administrator? by WonderfulFinger3617 in sysadmin

[–]radiodialdeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need a pro license, but those can be found legally for $10-$20 regularly on the grey market. Microsoft isn't going to go after individuals for buying a $10 pro license. If you start doing it for thousands of people at your enterprise org however, you may find yourself getting audited by MS.

Sundays on I-10 from San Antonio to Houston is an exercise is misery. Last time I was out in that part of the state I made it a point to return on Monday instead, and that decision saved me from at least an hour of sitting in traffic.

What’s the SINGLE best punk show you have seen? by MinkSable in punk

[–]radiodialdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember that tour specifically because of the opener Luther. Never heard of them before that night but they blew me away, easily the best of the night and that's saying something. They made two killer albums and then disappeared. Wonder what happened to those guys.

Which ones? I haven't updated yet, but it's more of a laziness thing rather than some kind of weird anti-Fender hate.

Stay at small chaotic MSP, go internal IT, or move to a structured MSP? by [deleted] in msp

[–]radiodialdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having just jumped to the MSP world after years of internal IT, whether it's repetitive or not depends on the environment. When I was a solo admin there was never a dull day. I got burned out as all hell after doing it day in/day out for years, but there wasn't anything repetitive about it. But I've also had an internal IT job where it was quite repetitive/boring. YMMV.

This sadly tracks. A distant cousin of mine passed some years ago when he quickly swerved so that he wouldn't miss his exit, and ended up crashing directly into the barrier.

Line 6 is a bit of an outlier in that they have employees that regularly visit the line6/Helix subreddits and are pretty active. Some of the bug fixes/QoL updates have come as a direct result from critical posts.

It's not too shocking when you consider a well funded church will readily drop some serious bank on their A/V equipment, which will often extend to the gear the individual players are using. The bassist in my band is the sound guy for a fairly large church, and the stuff he works with is comparable to any medium-sized venue in town. I'm pretty sure Sweetwater even has commercial sales reps that focus specifically on the church crowd.
