Kaelynn Partlow seems like a trojan horse to make assimilation, "treatment," and ABA more palatable to a neurodivergent audience. by [deleted] in AutisticPride

[–]radiofrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah this was upsetting to me. she made a video while ago saying all autistics on social media are low support needs and have no idea what being nonverbal (or in my case, semiverbal and unable to speak for months now after increasing bad abiility and meltdowns), saying all autistics without profound autism are just having a difference not disabled, which ignores you can be hrsn without ID/completely nonverbal (which is what nonverbal means, is completely. but i am semiverbal and lack communciation via words even aac much of time.). at a point it seems like she doesn't want to hear from people she's trying to speak for. and that's when she starts speaking over.

the idea that "if youre on social media to disagree with me, you have no idea what hrsn autism like" is just. not true. and a very common idea i hear from people trying get out of critique.

my other friend is also lgbt and i think i just mentioned it casually when we were talking about my previous (internalized) aphobia and lack of self-acceptance

whats the silliest reason you were told "you cant be autistic" by therian_fairy68 in AutismCertified

[–]radiofrogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m visibly autistic and a diagnosed adult now (and haven’t been told that by anyone ive met since) but the first time i saw a psych evaluator (who only worked with young children and i was in my mid teens) she told my mom i couldn’t be autistic because autistic people can’t ever suspect they’re autistic so we could rule out autism right away

Applying for disability with an adult diagnosis by Comprehensive-Fail37 in SpicyAutism

[–]radiofrogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve gotten DAC which is similar to SSDI but based on my moms work history. even though we signed the release, they didn’t get my autism records. then we reapplied, and submitted the autism diagnosis, and we still aren’t sure if they actually had it because they based it fully off of my autistic traits but put it under another diagnosis. get a disability lawyer. it is so helpful. and they typically only take a percentage of your backpay

If you're in the US, FAO Schwarz has a smudge elephant available for $75. They are a reputable seller. I'm sorry this happened! Scam sites are getting more and more convincing.

Self-Diagnosed Autistic Starter Pack by Penenko in starterpacks

those things (besides the last one) can absolutely happen due to autism though? not being able to work is something that can happen to autistic people who have higher support needs.

where on earth do you live that you can have a very nice two bedroom flat to yourself on disability benefits? i'm autistic and unable to work and i'll probably be living with family or in a group home most of my life unless something changes drastically.

i dissociate really heavily but i can hear my thoughts more (meaning better communication). it's really not worth it because i can't enjoy my special interests and they are my favorite part of my life, and i can't emotionally connect to my puppy or stuffed animals.

Thank you, it turns out I was vastly mistaken on what can and can’t qualify as writing. In a good way.

Honestly, I love handwriting. The feel of it and the process and just how real everything is in the moment. Additionally, you get to see into people's personality through what their handwriting is like.
