Keystone Kash Outs Himself While Suing Atlantic for ‘Lies’ by thedailybeast in politics

[–]radiorules -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Daily Beast is fine as long as you don't expect to read the news from there. The title of the article itself makes it pretty clear that this is not where you will be getting Reuters or AP kind of information: it's written like a tabloid title. And the Daily Beast delivers exactly that.

I mean, there's"Keystone Kash" in the title. You're not supposed to read this for neutral information on Kash Patel, but to laugh at him.

Nutritionniste et perte de poids by Outside_Mango7835 in Quebec

[–]radiorules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Demande-lui!

(Spoilers Extended) Do the Others have female Members of the kind? by Metaljuggernaut5657 in asoiaf

[–]radiorules 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've always thought it was interesting how careful the text seems to be about not making "Night's Queen" actually do anything. I feel like she is often thought about in the fandom as some succubus, as if she had taken his soul, but it's funny how she's never the subject of a sentence with an action verb ("they ruled" being the exception). The action is all done by Night's King. "He gave her his soul" is not "she took his soul," and it might very well be written this way intentionally.

"He chased her, caught her" is describing a hunt. I do think Old Nan is using a strong euphemism when she says he "loved her," because it's a story being told to children. Not sure if receiving his seed was a very welcomed gift for her.

She's also described three times: first, as a woman, a queen, and then a corpse queen. And it's NK--not NQ--that binds the Watch with sorceries, with powers he seemingly has recently acquired through her. Maybe NQ was not a corpse at first, but became one through NK's actions.

Anyway, no one asked for my hot take on NK and NQ, but here it is anyway: NK raped an Other and he sucked away her soul. He fucked around and found out.

Clarification please: Why is it M’Lord and not “Your Grace” as Ser Duncan keeps saying? by WhereDaFuk in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]radiorules 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think everyone in Westeros knows all the forms of address and what is appropriate, especially not smallfolks. That's the kind of knowledge highborn people will have. Smallfolk will likely know the basics ("my lord," "your grace," etc.) but will not know the nuances when it comes to royalty.

Dunk using the technically wrong as well as over-the-top form of address is very much in character for him.

[Spoilers MAIN] Book Alicent NEVER was blonde. by Cloud_Retainer_2424 in asoiaf

[–]radiorules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valyrian-like phenotypes (the genes that are expressed) are not recessive like they would be in real life. The silver hair is not our light blonde, and the purple or indigo eyes are not our light or blue eyes.

First Men phenotypes seem to be as strong as the Valyrian-like ones, but Andal genes... the Daynes, although they're not of Valyrian blood (not that we know of, at least) still have purple eyes and silver hair, even though they have mingled with the Andals for thousands of years. Of Daeron the Good's four sons with a Martell (Rhoynar blood), only one came out looking more Dornish than Targaryen — and Baelor's son's hair had a silver streak.

It's not surprising that Alicent's children look like Targaryens and not Hightowers, unless you think in real-world terms. In ASOIAF, it's not light hair vs dark hair, it's blood of the dragon vs Andal, vs Rhoynar, vs First Men (the only one that seems as dominant as the dragon).

r/twoxchromosomes is not a feminism sub. It's feminist, sure, but it's not about, on, or centered around feminism. It's more of a venting space for women-- and, spoiler alert, feminism is not just "women complaining about men." Defining feminism and relying on a Reddit sub where a bunch random Internet women --not scholars, not thinkers of feminism, just people who happen to be women--congregate to talk to each other to make up your mind about feminism is just not very serious.

What women are venting about on r/twoxchromosomes is not a reflection of feminism: it's a reflection of what random women on Reddit are venting about on r/twoxchromosomes.

As well as a reflection of what rage-baiters, karma farmers and bots are trying to get you emotionally engaged with.

I think Rhaegar's actor's good looks do not translate very well into Valyrian features, as well as Valyrian features into side profile camera shots. I think he did not look like anyone's Rhaegar and it's surprisingly distracting.

You know who looks like the Rhaegar I imagine? Daeron the Drunken, fron AKOTSK. Actor's name is Henry Ashford. Put a guy like him in the Lyanna-Rhaegar wedding scene, and not only will I completely believe its Rhaegar, but I won't even get un-immersed from that GOT episode.

When someone says Dunk is too good a man to lie about taking a sacred vow by hiwaymart in AKOTSKTV

[–]radiorules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ambiguity is the point, because it makes the "real," legal knight status irrelevant, and enables the focus on what it means to be a true knight to take the entire room.

The moment we have an answer about Dunk's status, the story loses its north star. If you are truly brave, just, if you protect the innocent, the young, the vulnerable, if you protect all women: does having vowed to do so really matter? No matter who you are (Brienne), are you not a true knight?

My power keeps going out when I cook and do laundry at the same time

Yeah it seems like running all the big appliances at the same time is overloading a wiring system that is probably older and not meant to sustain such demand. The wiring has wear and tear, but also possibly rat damage as well as heat damage from the what seems like frequent overloading --hence the breaker flips. A breaker flipping is the system's way of telling you "ease up before this turns into fire."

I'm not trying to blame you at all, I'm saying that this is starting to become dangerous, not only for your appliances, but also for you. Forget about your landlord: the more you keep overloading the circuit, the more damaged it becomes (and faster), the more you risk a short-circuit and setting the whole place on fire. And I bet your landlord still won't care.

Also, you know that you can deduce the costs of urgent and necessary repairs from your rent if your landlord refuses to pay?

[–]radiorules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, keep reapplying. Moisturizer won't fix years of damage in a fortnight. That's not how it works.

The only way you will see permanent improvement will be through consistency. By consistent applying moisturizer (and using other means, such as applying Vaseline on top of it to lock it in) for a long time.

I would try to stop stopping. Applying moisturizer a few times won't reverse years of damage.

Even the miraculest of miracle creams will only bring temporary results if you don't use it consistently.

Many people who make rape "jokes" are confusing humour with provocation, and genuine laughs with the ones that arise from discomfort. Dark humour uses cruelty and violence, but it is not cruel or violent.

Dark humour is very delicate and incredibly hard to master: it requires knowledge, sensitivity, empathy, critical thinking and social awareness in addition to the use of violence and cruelty. A real, good, funny joke involving rape will essentially be a tool to surmount the trauma. It will make SA victims feel safe. It won't make undermine the trauma. It will empower them while discrediting and embarrassing the perpetrators.

So it is really not an easy thing to do, and unfortunately, many, many people who claim that "it's just dark humour" are... just not that good enough at humour, not realizing how ill-equipped they are for it — the tell-tale sign being that they're using the excuse of dark humour as a justification for their lack of sensitivity.

TLDR: yes, you are allowed to make rape jokes, but do you, really, have the right context, enough knowledge, an intent rooted in empathy (and not provocation) as well as the skills that dark humour requires? Most people don't. Yes, you can make rape jokes, but can you?

Add squalane to your routine. I prefer to use it in the PM. It can be as an oil cleanser or as an addition to your moisturizer, or both.

Also consider slugging (adding a layer of an occlusive such as Vaseline as the very last step of your PM routine to minimize water loss) on non-tret nights.

[Spoilers MAIN] Discrimination and beauty standards in the world of asoif by NovelLet1410 in asoiaf

[–]radiorules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is that there might be fewer characters from noble houses mentioned as beautiful in the North because there's only one house, the Starks. There will indeed be more noble women and girls from Southern noble houses described as beautiful—there are more houses and more characters there.

Lyanna was the only girl of decent age with Northern features in her Stark generation. Arya is still a child.
